The other day I was pulled over by the cops.
The cop told me to get out of the car and he patted me down. Then he said he was going to search the car. I told him I wasn't consenting to a search.
He told me he had to tow the car and that he had to search the car to inventory everything that was in there. The whole time while he was searching the car I kept saying I don't consent to a search and he kept saying that it didn't matter because he had to inventory everything in the car. Luckily I didn't have anything in the car, but still.
Is this true that the police can just search your car simply because its being towed?
I'll be back online later, I'm off to the police impound to get my fucking car back...
To answer you directly I can say that I dont know, but this seems a little fishy and the cop may have been bending (breaking) the law.
First off, where do you live?
Second off what were you pulled over for?
Thrid off, were you arrested?
Fourth off why did he tow the car/say that he had to tow the car? This is important becasue I have never heard of this.
Also I know where I live, police can "frisk" you for weapons because there saftey is at risk.

They can't just take your car for no reason. Thank the 4th Amendment for that one. Was your car damaged or something?

Does New York have any Implied Consent laws*?
My state has one :(
*most I've seen just only handle dui checks, but some even go as far as to allow a police officer to search your vehicle.

Consult a lawyer, sue the police.

Sounds like someone didn't have their insurance info on them, cops are required in some places to impound a car no matter what if a driver can't produce valid proof of insurance.

You committed an offense for which you could go to prison while in your car. That is all probably cause a cop needs; much like if he saw you smoking weed in your car, hitting your wife in your car, etc.

you must be very young-never allow law enforcement to search without warrant-never exit your car unless u are under arrest-and if for some unknown reason you do exit your car make sure you lock it behind you.carry a voice activated tape recorder-and let them know that you are taping them to protect your rights-do not let fear over whelm you-always be in control-and if 4 some unknown reason u get arrested do not say nothing. period.it use to be we were innocent until proven guilty-now however your guilty until proven innocent. you may be guilty by assocation-but that doesn't mean that you are bad.just because you know someone doesn't make you guilty-always make the state prove that you are guilty.
