View Full Version : The most expensive thing you've eaten/drunk?

Thought this might make an intreresting thread.
What is THE most expensive thing you've consumed? Did you purchase it, or did someone let you try some? I'm hoping to see some obscure and downright luxurious items in here-- with some of the OI family being chefs, some who appreciate fine foods/drinks (sambob :p).
Most ecpensive thing I've had was JW Blue Label. £140 I paid for a bottle. It was a most marvelous drink, something I'd love to buy again for a winter treat. Also, what prodcuts really improve along with price? Some things don't, some do. What is your experience with this?
I've been quite lucky to sample some of the world's finest insofar as whiskies, brandies, and wines are concerned. Most of them I cannot immediately recall, but to top the list that which was most reknown would be Remy Martin Louis XIII cognac, which I've seen for as high as $1,700 per 750 mL.
My time as a taster of finer spirits has, however, at least for the time being, ended. I no longer work for that man, whom is one of Cincinnati's superbly elite socialites and one of the nation's four hundred wealthiest.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label. My friend bought some for his birthday and he let me have a glass. It was an amazing scotch

Yep, I'll join the Blue Label bandwagon. I tried a glass once too, and it's the best scotch I've ever tasted.
I have drank Cambodian breast milk. I only drink the finest breast milks.

Another one on, though it was wasted on me. It's only one of a few scotchs I've ever even tasted; I probably couldn't even distinguish it from Red, but someone gave me some and I wasn't going to turn it down.

$70CAD little bowl of shark-fin soup.
My grandmother also has a ziplock bag of bird's nest worth about $1000 that I've sampled.

I bought a £60 steak once. Thing was fucking huge.
Oh, and I've smoked a cigar worth near a ton.

ive never eaten anything very expensive.
The most expensive drinks have all been top quality tequilas. On the food side of things, I'm fairly sure that it's one of the seven course meals.

Most expensive thing I've eaten was probably a ~$40 prime rib. Amazing, but obviously not that prestigious.

About 2 or 3 years ago I went up to new jersey on new years eve for a party. The house him and the people he worked with lived at contained a case of 6 bottles of dom perignon 1984(keep in mind these are over $400 a bottle) in the attic. The land lord apparently forgot to pick it up. That night we drank most of the 5 bottles, along with the rest of the micro brew and naty light you could force down your throat with a bit of liquor to match. we drank the rest of the bottle the next morning, at room temperature still fucked up. Then one of the dudes went and bought 15 big macs and 10 double quarter pounders 15 large frys and 10 larger drinks. I ate alot of mcdonalds that day to soak up all of that alcohol. We chugged the last bottle a year later.

There's a steakhouse somewhat near me called Bern's Steakhouse (http://www.bernssteakhouse.com/) i went with my friends family after graduation. It was the best meal I've ever had. I had a 70$ dollar porterhouse for dinner, so many fucking appetizers your mind would explode, whole bellied clams, raw oysters, huge cajun prawns, the best scallops I've ever had. Ceaser salad where they make the dressing infront of you along with the richest lobster bisque I've ever tasted. for 15 people the bill was well over 2000,

lol ya my friend's dad paid it was so fucking tits, they're like ya just get whatever you want. We rode there in a huge Explorer limo and drank some nice red champagne( i think that's what it was called.) I don't drink so I'm not too informed when it comes to alcohol, but I think that's what it was.
When I was a little younger my family went to PEI and got to eat at Michael Smith's restaurant. He's pretty famous here in Canada, and he's really good friends with my Uncle because my Uncle is, or was, one of the head chefs at the Culinary Institute of Canada.
We got smoked salmon with bread stuff for starters, then I got a really yummy chunk of lamb with like, part of the rib still attached? I can't think of what that's called right now. So fucking good. And a bunch of really expensive deserts that were on the house.
I passed out shortly after. I weighed like 90 pounds and ate so much food.

Rack of lamb. Fucking good is right.
I dunno what the most expensive thing I've eaten is... probably a platter at Red Lobster, or something equally as unimpressive.:(

You gave someone head?
And by head I mean dome.
When the hell did people start saying 'dome'? That's got to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard, next to 'brain'.
There's a guy I was in school with for the 2007-2008 fall and spring semesters. Young guy (only 18 I think), virgin, completely hopeless socially, never done anything with a girl. Probably won't for a while. Overweight, very 'roly poly' type, but not good looking at all. He would always refer to someone 'getting some dome', or 'getting some brain' like he actually knew what he was talking about. For some reason, to me this was the most annoying shit in the world. "Hey man did you get some dome?"
I mean come ON... dome?
Sheesh!

It's when someone on otse was talking about it. Now we use it to make fun of him. Or at least that's what I was told.

It's suprising how many people in this thread have tried JW Blue Label.

I had a glass of fifty year old single malt scotch whisky which we bought for my uncles retirement (This tasted amazing), also a friend and I shared a £25 (that's about $50) handmade Cuban cigar, which I bought from a tobbaconist for his leaving party (Which also tasted amazing, smelled amazing and took 2 and a half hours to smoke). On the expensive foodstuffs i'm not entirely high on the scale, Probably some sort of lobster or steak meal which I've had. I used to work in an italian restaurant, so I've eaten some nice italian food, but I've never really tried that crazy haute cuisine nonsense; from what I've seen, the portions are miniscule, and I despise the flavour of mushrooms, so grating truffle on my foie gras would just be a waste of truffle to be honest. I prefer a nice hearty steak and ale pie, chips, peas and a pint of Guinness to be honest.
I had a main that featured kobe beef last night.

mmm.
probably a dinner my uncle paid for.
wasn't really worth it in my opinion.
but then again, i was pretty young then so didn't really appreciate the flavors/ingredients.

It was nice. A very thin cut steak that held a depth of flavour.

I live in France, (although I'm from the US), and I've had bottles of wine friends have given me from the 1980s, the earliest being from 1977.
To be not so relative to the idea, I eat saffron at the restaurant I work at on a regular basis. It's supposedly the most expensive spice in the world. Although you eat a tiny amount of it. I also eat foie gras on Sundays at times at the resto. It goes for about 50 euros for a pound.
I've drank 25 year old scotches. Smoked cuban cigars.
Went to a restaurant with my cousin who is a developer two years ago. It was the company he works for who paid for it, and the fish was sold by the gram. I can't imagine how much the bill went for that night.
I don't believe I have ever eaten anything even worth mentioning here. Maybe some super expensive chocolate? I've consumed really old liquors that my grandfather passed on but I don't know the price...

Frankly the only difference between blue label and red label I could spot is blue label isn't anywhere near as bad on the way down.

That explains it. There's obviously a reason why it's so expensive and revered. It's entirely different. Not to be a dick, just wanted to point that out.

Bit of an odd drink to partner with lobster, but wouldn't turn it down if I was offered some.

It came out to about$200 for 4 people. Luckily I went with my mom, so I didn't have to pay.

Ramune. Sure, its cheap when you consider the per-bottle price, but then go add to-australia shipping to that (about $50 or so). :o
a $35 T-bone steak from some fancy restaurant in las vegas, it was the best thing ive ever eaten in my life...
and not that ive actually drank any of it, my granda has a bottle of lois tres brandy, that goes for a few hundred a shot in some places. He's never opened it though.

$40 Kangeroo steak in Sydney, Australia. In citrus sauce with broccoli; so worth the money.
~$600 Bordeux, my lifelong buddy's dad had an extensive collection. We took a bottle that was in the back when we were like 16. Shit was amazing, unfortunately i'll probably never taste it again for a long time.
Booze I'm not sure, I sampled a few scotches from my buddies crazy rich dad's supply, I'm guessing a few of those were up there in price.
I went to this Brazilian place in DC once that specialized in meats. Bill came to over $1200 for ten of us.

Hahah I remember at one point some kid on here drank an expensive bottle belonging to his father and was trying to come up with the money to replace it or something.
Quite amusing.

I bought a 750ml of Patron Anejo. The price varies, but I paid $70. I'm underage, so I had to have someone buy it for me.
It wasn't as great as I expected, but good nonetheless.

Come to think of it I once drank a $150 bottle of cognac from Italy. My rich friend took it from his parent's liquor as well as a bottle of black label. Good night to say the least. :)
