the age old debate. in the realm of breakfast quick breads which starch reigns supreme?

is it the tender golden pancakes built for spreading goodies across its surface much like the pioneers moving west across the plains. or does the waffle with it multi syrup traps capture the hearts an minds of the populace much like it traps the syrup from our bottels.?

personaly i am a fan of the waffel. as allready noted it traps syrup like moses trapped the egyptians in the red sea. also they can be easily divided amongst four frineds making them the perfect party food. in fact i am eating waffles right now. whole wheat with walnuts. they own an make me very happy.

so OI which do you like most? why?

Waffles FTW. For all the reasons you've mentioned.

Waffles by a long shot.
Pancakes get boring quick and typically have less inherent flavor than a waffle.
I can eat a waffle on its own with no toppings and enjoy it, pancakes not so much.

I love a nice stack of pancakes loaded with butter and syrup, though I think waffles still win hands down.

there is still one category that pancakes hold the advantage in.

you can roll them around your breakfast meats an then dip them into syrup making an awesome breakfast burrito like bastard child.

Finnish Pancakes

Finn pancakes are a tradition in Thunder Bay. I first had them at a famous place called The Hoito in an area known as Little Finland in downtown Thunder Bay. The Hoito has been serving up these wonderful pancakes since the early 1900’s. The recipe for the actual Hoito pancakes is very closely guarded and what we present here is a close approximation to the secret recipe. Finnish pancakes are thinner than most pancakes you've probably had, almost like crepes.

2 cups milk
1 cup flour
2 tbsp sugar
¼ tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla

Mix well by hand. Preheat greased pan on high heat and then turn down to medium heat. Pour in one spoonful (use a ladel or a large tablespoon). Depending on the size of your skillet, cook one or two at a time. The pancake mixture keeps well in the refrigerator. I am told that The Hoito makes theirs the night before. Perhaps that’s their secret! These pancakes taste great with drizzles of maple syrup and fresh cut strawberries.

I like waffles better than pancakes. Because waffles are like pancakes with syrup traps. They say to syrup, "You ain't going anywhere, don't even be trying to creep down the sides. Just rest in these squares, if one square is full, move on. When you hit butter, split up.

I put fruit on top of my waffles, because I want something to brush off.

A superbly scientific yet very enjoyable analysis.

I only think waffles are better if you go to Waffle House. I don't know why, if it's because of all the sugar, or what? But they taste pretty good. I generally prefer pancakes though. I'll just roll them up and eat them plain. Much faster than waffles.
