I'm not really sure whether to put this here, but it mostly deals with labor law and disabilities. Move as needed as it is partially a psychology thread. I've had the same shitty fast-food job for the past 3 years and had a manic phase as work, spurred on by my anxiety and nervous tension. I told them I was quitting in 2 weeks since finding another shitty job should be easy.

Looking for another job though, I still have the same anxiety as before I got this job because they didn't even interview me I got up the nerve and they said "come in tomorrow and start working" it was dumb luck. I need rigid structure and anything new freaks me the fuck out thus I can work my job easily and have my anxiety controlled most of the time at work.

Under the law anxiety, depression, mania is a disability so I have this to work with. Can I be punished? Would it be wise to talk to my boss and just lay it all out, say they need to work with me until I find a new job?

Could I file for social security or even partial social security? I have no insurance so cannot seek treatment at the moment though have in the past so have proof that I have seen a doctor for this and have even been arrested before because of my "condition"

Feel free to flame and troll and tell me to toughen up, whatever I understand my problem but over 5 years of treatment and nothing mostly because I self medicate with drugs and lose interest (when I did have insurance and went to see a psychiatrist/psychologist) when the mania hits.

Thanks.

Im sorry man about what happened. Maybe just do like you said, talk it out with your boss and see what he has to say.

Try yahooanswers. Post it multiple times because most morons just answer to get points. Wish I could help you further.

I hope the link above is of some help to you.

I love how everyone these days has a bullshit, pseudo-psychiatric excuse for being a fuckup.

Can't blame the shrinks, though; I'd be doing the same thing given the vast sums to be made in diagnosing and prescribing to these idiots.

Thanks, that also answered another questions I had I was wondering if I needed a doctors note but since I have medical proof that i've had this before I have a lot more to work with since you only need proof that you've had it before.

To Quantrill, you can eat a dick my friend. Social anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder etc are classified under the law as disabilities and do exist. It is because of ignorant people who tell me to "just get over it" that I almost killed myself and ended up in jail. When you have your will-power taken away it's hard to dredge yourself out of a situation even if it is possible to help yourself away from mental illness (which it is as long as it isn't severe, by making lifestyle changes I am slowly getting better but it is still hard and life is hard enough without something debilitating like this)

I would think that any rational adult would be willing to work with you. I don't think giving you a structured work environment is asking anything unreasonable, but I suppose it depends greatly on the sort of job you're talking about? Some jobs just require you to be able to think on your feet and adapt to changes quickly, other jobs (like desk jobs, data entry, etc) are mundane and very routine and would probably be great for you.

Are you being treated currently? I would imagine what would be even more crucial than worrying about this job is making sure you are trying to get this under control and overcome it.

Sorry you are dealing with it - sound really miserable. And yea, ignore the retards that tell you to "get over it" - they have no idea wth they are talking about.

Just get over it.

By wanting benefits, privileges, and accomodations that a "normal" person woudln't be entitled to, you show that you are a net drain on society, not an asset. By enabling people like you, society gets weaker, not stronger. You are actually causing the human race to de-evolve. Thanks a lot, dickweed.

Oh yeah, and just freakin' get over it already!

Unfortunately I lost my parents insurance when I turned 21 so no i'm not getting treatment, I have to resort to herbs, breathing exercises, exercise. I wasted my time from 15-21 going through different types of treatment they all failed should have gone through cognitive behavioral therapy but no one suggested it and by the time I got around to learning about it, it was too late. Like I said this is a shit fast food job no thinking required but they take advantage of us. I'm pretty much over there I just want a source of income while I look for another job.

To the trolls above, like I said eat a dick. If you cannot work at the level as "normal" people the employer must reasonably accomodate you as long as you can do the job. It's easy to say get over it when you haven't experienced it, put yourself in someone elses shoes or go huff some raid till you can.

If you can't perform at a level expected of "normal" people, why should the business owner be forced to hire you and incur a loss on your shitty work, or pass the cost on to the customer? Why shouldn't he be able to hire the best person for the job, and tell those who won't or can't get their shit together to go fuck themselves? It is you, the burden, who should have to find alternate employment at a level that suits you. I suggest collecting aluminum cans and digging through trash bins for your meals.

My girl friend has a lot of Anxiety problems. Diagnosed, sought treatment, etc.

It's easy to deal with when you're around it enough but I wonder how she will do with jobs, etc.

She gets really panicky around new things, etc.
