I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in the idea of selecting a movie everyone should watch (perferrably older movies considering recent ones are usually discussed as they release) and come on to rate and comment.

Let's face it, we here at totse are known for liking a particular brand of movie (Fight Club, The Big Lebowski, etc etc) I'd like to see a bunch of users watch the same movies and make their opinions heard - The higher rated movies (consensus) could become a recommended viewing list for totse members new and old..

Anyone interested? ...And no, I don't really have the motivation to do this myself or I would have just started it and see how it went.

Actually that sounds like a good idea. I think the first matter of course would be for each of the contributing members to post a list of DVDs which they currently own so that we could all decide on movies to be watched without requiring anyone to purchase a new film.

without requiring anyone to purchase a new film.

*cough*download*cough*
Not only would finding a dvd that everyone ones be a bit tedious, but I think that would kind of defeat the purpose of the club if everyone is rating their favorite movies(usually if you own the dvd it's pretty high up on your list)

sounds like a great idea. i also vote against picking a movie everyone already owns.

It would be cool if a moderator could make this official. The problem is there will be alot of debate about which movie to select, so we need a higher authority to make the decision. Or just take a vote or something.

So we would debate movies we'd all seen. That's a brilliant idea, I don't know how you came up with it.
Or we could have a forum where like you could make threads about any movie you've seen...

I'm kidding, I think it's an okay idea.

I like this idea. I'm also for selecting a movie most people haven't seen.

here's my (albeit short) list:

1972 - Solyaris (Andrei Tarkovsky)
2001 A Space Odyssey
American Psycho
Children.Of.Men
Easy Rider_1969
Equilibrium.[2002]
Fantasia 2000 - Walt Disney
Fantasia[1940]
Fear.and.Loathing.in.Las.Vegas
No.Country.For.Old.Men.2007
Stalker[1979.Tarkovsky]
The.Big.Lebowski
The.Dark.Knight

Actually, looking at that list, most people have probably already seen those.

Also I'd like to see some foreign movies get tossed into the pile.
