So this is a nice conversation we had. Do ALL cell phones have GPS? well i guess its plausable but really i think im against. it i figured though i dont understand Cell phone technology but i think if i did then i would be able look through my phone and see if there is gps tech in there. seeing as i cant find anyone on the net that actually confirms this i dont think its going on.
The Govt actually tracking us with this type of technology that is built into our phones is mos defiantly plausible. also METRO PCS makes me parinoid

I don't think every phone has it installed by default, though every company must legally provide the GPS as an option.

The whole cellular concept of mobile phones lend themselves to easy tracking. At any given point (with decent reception) more than one cell tower can "see" you. With a minimum of three towers seeing you it becomes quite a trivial task to triangulate you position within a certain range. The more towers seeing you, the more accurate the triangulation becomes. And this is all with 90's tech and those old bigass motorola bricks, no GPS needed.

Edit: I now realize that is is all outlined in the link above me. I swear I looked at it afterwards.

I'd also like to add that the reason why cell phones are cheaper than home phones is because huge carriers log the routes of cellphones with that triangulation software, which they then plot the heaviest routes for big consumers like cellphone users. They also have access to your credit report, which tells them how much money can be lent to you. All of this info, of course you name is never given, is sold to advertising firms like Patterson, to figure out rates for specific billboard locations. The make money off knowing where you drive, which subsidizes the the service. Soon expect advertisements on your phone itself, likely advertising for big name stores that are close to your proximity through GPS. Much like Hotmail sifts through your e-mails for key phrases to display adverts in the window while you read your mail. Did you think it was free?

Give that a read.

Its a legal requirement that cell phone providers be able to locate you to within 100 meters.

Which is why I ditch my phone when I go to places like the mall. I notice I get more marketing texts from my carrier when I'm there. I guess they think I have disposable income, but i work there like a dog making almost nothing.

With just a laptop, a dohnut, and coffee
