One of the best beers i've ever had. The flavor is perfect for fall. It's a little pricey (about 15 bucks for a six pack where i am) but it's deffinitly worth trying if you haven't yet.

Not tried it myself. What are the flavours like?

it's like a warm spicy flavor. like i said very fall like. you can deffinitly taste the pumpkin, although i could taste something else but i couldn't quite put my finger on it. maybe it was clove or cinnamon
Unfortunately I don't think I've encountered Shipyard brews here in the midwest. I have had pumpkin-based beer, however, and it was rather tasty.
The real brewing treat of autumn = Oktoberfestbier.

I'd guess it was cinnamon to better match the pumpkin. Sounds pretty tasty either way.

I have but I'm just not a huge fan of the whole non-grain item/beer brews. Hell, I'm not even a huge fan of the real Lambics from Belgium.

This past fall I was all about pumpkin ales, tried every one I came across.
Shipyard was definitely one of my favorites.

You know, it's all personal choice, but fruity beers just don't taste as good as a nice hoppy IPA or a really malted stout.
I like cranberry lambic, but i can only have like 2 before they start to taste bad.
Also I had shipyard's summer seasonal when my friend came back from portland it was pretty good. Had a little lemony flavor, which is good. The problem with pumpkin ales and other fruit beers is that they are overwhelmed by the fruity flavor and loose their character

Was the spiciness nutmeg maybe?

Probably, it's quite common with pumpkin flavored brews.

It's a real shame, we have to search quite hard over here to find something like that. America has a great culture of micro-breweries making seasonal drinks.

But it seems most pubs have Smithwick's on draught.
That's pure fucking win mate.

I guess. It'd just be nicer to have more seasonal offerings in this country.

I suppose. Here in the U.S. I feel as though there's an overload of such, seeing as how EVERYBODY has to brew their "ultimate" version of a particular brew, and while many are good, few are particularly GREAT.
Personally I'm a huge fan of Marzen lagers, traditionally served at Oktoberfest - surely you see a good deal of such in the U.K., no?
By the way, I'm a huge fan of Samuel Smith's. Their Winter Welcome Ale is quite tasty, one of my favorite seasonals. Their Nut Brown Ale and Oatmeal Stout are some of the best brews I've had, and their organic cider far exceeds Strongbow in my opinion.

Strongbow is awful. Almost anything is better than that tripe. You should check out Westons Cider.
I see your point there, I just feel we're let down here. I see it almost as a responsibilty from the brewers to put out at least ONE brew based on the saeson. They use so much of the produce out there they could at least do it some justice and make something from it when it's at is best.

Unfortunately we don't see much cider from the U.K. here. Even the largest local liquor store, one of the country's greatest, typically only carries Strongbow in 12 oz. bottles and tallboy cans, Woodchuck (from New England, USA) which is overly sweet, and Wyder's which I believe is from Canada. And then there's the pint-sized bottles of Sam Smith's Organic Cider.
I think we may see Bulmer's or Magner's from time to time though I can't recall.

Hmm, seems like a terrible crime is going on there. I advise ordering some from a reputable, Internet dealer. Cider is almost on par with wine and beer for matching flavours with food now. It's also damn tasty as a standalone drink.

i am also a fan of ciders, an while this next statement may damage my credibility, i will say it none the less.
i like pear ciders a lot.

Perry is fucking win.
Honestly though I was a little confused the first time I drank it, because anytime I purchase bottled brew I always pour it in a glass - ALWAYS - and it came out clear - for some reason I had peaches in mind and was expecting it to come out orange.
Stupid mindfart, it was.
Just my dumb $0.02
