Well, I was just watching that film 'Martial law 9/11' , and it really got home to me how dividing politics can be for everyone really, just seeing in new york etc that guy (fucking annoying) literally just arguing back and forth with a 'communist' both saying the other is a capitalist .. just couldn't watch any more as it was so boring/repetitive/annoying ..
I'm just wondering if all people really are that closedminded in the USA/even other places, just seems as if it's 'pick one, fuck over anyone who says different' .. always said that politics is just another thing to divide people and make them fight ..
I mean personally, I am probably leaning to the left, but I'll listen to what anyone has to say and if a real good argument is presented for any particular side, I'll hear it ..

Hope this makes at least a bit of sense ..

Many of my countrymen still maintain a Salem witch hunt mentality. We really are that divided.

I imagine we're a lot easier to control that way.

Two kids in my chemistry class this morning were on the verge of beating the hell out of each other over something political. All I heard were the words Obama, Bush, Change, Bullshit and a few others. I really have no idea what they were fighting about and I'm not sure they did either.

Its just ridiculous how caught up in it they get.

I dont know of Obama will try and get away with more than Bush did or if he really is the same old bullshit, but he could certainly get away with it now with everyones new mentality that was created just by this separation between 'republicans' and 'democrats'.

It's not helped by the two party system, where the debate becomes as much about what the other guy is doing wrong as what your guy is doing right. At least where you have many parties with a chance of winning a portion of parliament there is more pressure to outline exactly how your policy is better than everyone else's.

Its called the 50+1 strategy. Some politicians intentionally divide people with wedge issues so that the size of each population is about half. Then by introducing some other issue that a small percentage of people actually care about, they hope to pull at least 1% from one of the populations into the other and make it 51% to 49%. From that point they can technically win by 51%. Its a strategy just for winning. In reality, politicians that use this strategy really have no leadership skills or accomplishments to run on. So all they can do is play to win.

Added - I believe this is a significant reason as to why the Republican Party is dying out with the younger generations. Younger generations are brought up in more diverse populations where they understand the existence of the "gray" area and the whole black and white divide is a false dichotomy. Once the older generations die off, so will the Republican Party. Unless they can rebound from their consecutive loses and understand that the divide and conquer strategy no longer works in its current form today.
