Alright I thought of this, and I was wondering what other people thought.. Its probibly been done before but i dunno..

Istead of using a solar ignitor hooked up to your power source to ignite an explosive, maybe you could get a small light bulb (like from a flashlight ect.), grind the tip off a little bit, and fill the bulb with fine flash powder. Put epoxy over the hole. Then when the voltage hits the bulb the coil will light up, causing the flash powder to burn breaking the glass, igniting whatever, like if you had it inside of a pipe bomb for example.

So totse, do you think this would work?

Im not sure of where to buy solar ignitors, soo I was thinkin maybe I could use this.

Yes it does work, it has worked rather well for many people ever since long before I even got into this hobby.

You dont have to waste a lightbulb, just use a piece of steel wool as the fuse.

Its actually quite simple, let me grab an image of one of my favorite camera's circuit board and do an awesome MS paint job on the image. Its from a kodak powerflash camera, they're cheap in packs of two and have a larger capacitor than most disposables.

Some models also auto recharge, so you dont have to press the button to charge it for multiple, quick pulses of current, speed depending on the battery you're using.

You can use a relay triggered by the alarm clock's alarm buzzer leads to give it a timer function. Power the board with 2 D batteries.

Wow that's really cool, I learned, thanks for explaining that. :) Thats amazing that you can get that much voltage off that board!! But I really don't need that much voltage to complete my mission. I will consider all of this when I am making my detonators.

How To Make An Electric Detonator

Requirments
Estes Model Rocket Ignitor
Steel wool
Extra Wire same guage as the wire that came with the Launcher
Wire strippers


How to

1 Take the Extra wire. strip of the plastic covering.
2 put the wires in the aligator clips to make an extension
3 Take 1 or more strands of steel wool to the extension wire
and complete the circuit.
4 Place Wired steel wool into the explosive device and run.
5 Detonate

Guitar strings work really well and are cheap or its just about the right time of year to buy a load of replacement christmas bulbs...

Or you could go on Ebay and find a 150+ foot roll of high gauge Nichrome wire for under 10 dollars like I did. To each his own I guess.

to detonate a c4 charge I use mercury end detonators

We're not talking about caps here...we're talking about the thing that would ignite them. Christmas light bulbs are GREAT. You can ignite them with a 9V battery; no need for a big capacitor.

Here's a neat trick for opening them quickly: light a candle, heat the tip of the bulb for a bit, then dunk it in a cup of water. The glass you heated will crack, and will be easily knocked out with pliers or something.

Yeah... I just use commercial e-matches...

Too expensive man.

I'm not going to spend hours making tons of e-matches when I can just bum/buy some off display operator friends and spend those hours actually making shells. E-matches really aren't that expensive.

Probably have about 30-40 e-matches right now... thats a good deal of shells... Even more if I chained the shells with quickmatch... Though in practice its faster to just load the shell pre-quickmatched with a end cap on a piece of bare black match, or a couple inches of some visco taped into the end of the quickmatch and just a bit of masking tape covering up the end of the visco... Load, rip protective covering off, light, walk away, turn, look up, be rewarded...

With single shells atleast...

If it was a show or something, then I'd probably do e-match to quickmatch to several shells to time fuse delay to more shells... then repeat... somewhat...

cracking xmas bulbs is even easyer then that get a file a fine one and with some pressure make one quick pass over the base of the bevel in just one area and it will "pop" and the tip will just pop right off try it

mouse trap, a shotgun shell, empty the pellets/slug fill with bp, for friction sensitive

remember to soulder a nail to hit the cap.
