The answer is: Yes.
As to whether *you* can do it, who knows?
We'd need more information to do anything useful -- in fact, you'd need very complete knowledge of the network if you even wanted to begin this with any level of confidence that you can get in.

Just download backtrack 3 and google fuck out of it. Read all the forums and learn a little about metasploit and some of the other tools it has. If you wanna go far with this stuff you'll really have to want to know about how networks and computers work. You need a deep understanding of the things you want to control.

Well, if he did get it, he could just scan the range of the router and try shared drives on each IP that pops up. That's worked out better then I'd have ever thought a few times. Man in the middle is a great one, and exploiting UPnP is another good one.... but that's pretty advanced shit.
If you connect to their network over wireless you can use cain and able. Just send out an ARP request, specify the router you're connected to and the IP address you want to intercept packets from.
Then sit back, relax and accumulate information. It will intercept urls, usernames and passwords, anything that tickles your fancy really.
If you need information on how to hack into a wireless network, there is this nifty little tool called "air crack". WEP encryption takes under a minute to break, but for WPA/2 you need a dictionary list.
Wardriving ftw.
