I found the recipe for Wendy's chili which isn't anything special but it's good. It calls for kidney and pinto beans and for some reason, I may not be able to find pinto beans.
Any suggestions for other beans I could use? The recipe is here: http://www.topsecretrecipes.com/recipedetail.asp?sessionid=&login=yes&id=103&page= You might want to check that site out. It's pretty cool making your favourites.

I'm a big fan of black beans in Chili.

This.
Though I am curious as to why one would be unable to acquire pinto beans? They're quite common.

Walmart (where my dad works (no were not poor or crazy, he's a dentist with his office in Walmart) didn't carry them. We just went to Loblaws and and got some. 2 hours untill the glorious pot of chili is finished.
Anyway ITT we talk beans in chili.

IMHO beans, especially kidney beans, ruin chili. When I'm biting into a spicy, succulent piece of meat, I don't want the flavor disturbed by a disgustingly dry bean.

Do you eat beans in other ways or are you just anti-bean altogether.

I think that beans add a nice texture in opposition to the meat. It can be played with, from Texas-style all meat, to mostly meat & a few beans, all the way to mostly beans & just a little meat.
I have some little interest in how those who favor the Texas-style all meat chili relate to beans in general. Do they care for baked beans or bean soups or do they just hate beans totally? Would they be insulted if they were offered a mostly bean/touch of meat chili?
How much of it is a "status" thing? "Huhhuhhuh! :D I can afford the meatzors & you must eat the beanzors. Stupid Beanor!" :D
I used to get a vegetarian chili mix from Safeway. You just add a can of kidney beans & cook it for 20 minutes. If they still sold it I would like to try it with the meat, but alas.

Isn't the only meat part in chili the meat? Wouldn't they pack it with the kidney beans and then you brown and add your own beef? I don't think they would pack meat in with it. Kind of like sloppy joes where you just add beef?

In the UK, most supermarkets do a tin of 5 different beans in mild chilli sauce. Cook that straight off, or that with mince in, or that + tin of chopped tomatoes, or any combination thereof, adding extra chillie powder / fresh chillies to taste, is pure win.

^ yeah this is a pretty good way to make cheap quick chilli. I do it about once a week.
When I'm doing it properly though, I don't add any beans; just diced beef, tomatoes, onions, peppers and various herbs and spices.

I find beans in chilli is excellent. If you don't like it eat them as a side dish.

while i do appreciate the texture beans add to a pot of chili, if you ask me it is no longer chili when you add beans to it. rather it is now some deliciously spicy an protein laden offspring, that while still satisfying in many ways, can no longer be called chili.
