I would like to clear up the misunderstanding that our government is here to serve the people. This is the type of old-fashioned thinking that comes from befuddled fools like Ron Paul.

Re-education is most easily accomplished by indoctrinating the youth, therefore I will set a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year (http://change.gov/americaserves/)

Yes, We Can!

50 hr/(365days x 24 hr) = .0057 hr per day

.0057 hr x 60 min = .34 minutes per day

I say make the little fuckers work. Kids these days are spoiled and bratty.

While I'm opposed to this, it's not much different than the rest of the pointless stuff they make you do in middle/high school. It's already basically forced labor where they decide how your time is best utilized, just not forced labor that's useful to anyone.

On a hard schedule in High School with a job, or maybe playing sports, 50 hours of community service per year would be much harder than it sounds.

I have to agree with ChickenOfDoom though, I have done more useless bullshit in the last few years than I would wish on anyone.

What is wrong with the idea?

How does this indoctrine the youth, and what does it indoctrinate them in?

Your insinuations are rather plain and unimaginative, I am just curious to see if you can form a valid arguement that might back up this nonsense even a wittle bitty bit.

Good luck.

It seems that this would indoctrinate them with a sense of caring about their communities, and wanting to improve their surroundings.

We must stop this.

As long as they're smart about it. Exemptions for teens who already work a certain amount of hours a week, for example, would be good. This would have been difficult for me to do. I worked 5 days a week, 6.5 to 8.5 hours a day, with wednesday and sunday off, when I was in highschool.

They'll also get a small flood of community service delinquent kids into the juvenile court system.

I think this is a good idea though. It'll change the mindset of the stupid gangsta kids.

No way! People should have the right to be lazy douchebags if they want to be! Though I agree that it would make our youth that much better the fact that they are being forced to do it is what bothers me. Perhaps something around the lines of Tax exemptions for parents who's child is in the community service program or some sort of benefit from doing community service might be better. As long as that choice is still there then it's all good.
