Short Version: Are there any 6-speed manuals that are bolt-on or close to bolt-on to replace the MTX-75 5-speed?

Long Version: My buddy works in a garage, and he swears he saw a seventh gen Cougar with a 6 speed a few weeks ago. Since the only offered manual was the 5 speed, I'd be interested in knowing which tranny was likely in it. I would assume it was a fairly inexpensive and simple operation (at least as far as tranny swaps go) since he says the Cougar looked stock in every other way, and because most people don't throw huge amounts of time and money at their Cougars.

edit: I should add that yes, it is possible my buddy just imagined the whole thing.

Its possible that a ASIAN trans could bolt up to that motor.Asian has been making transmissions for Mazda for a long time now for some reson mazda likes 6 speed transmissions and alot of ford and mazda engines are prettymuch identicial so it is a possiblilty,but Iam not even sure what the 7nth gen couger has in it.If its the 3.0 dohc motor then I think Its doable.

I spoke to my buddy, and this is correct. Ricer thew on a 6 speed shift knob. The 6 speed focus does present an interesting possibility though

wait until a mechanic taking it for a test drive jams it into reverse at 60 because he thinks it's a six speed...
