I think the Union(those who don't secede) would crumble and the south would flourish. What resources do the northern states really have? Fishing and industry and thats about it. Southern states have that plus agriculture, livestock, oil, natural gas, probably other shit. If the south did secede again, I think the union would eventually rejoin the south this time. Thoughts?

That's assuming the Military (Or at least the military in the south) decides to break it's loyalty to the Union and fight for the Seceding states instead.

One of the jobs of the Military is keep the country together and to keep it from destroying itself. Chances are, as soon as you guys started rioting to secede (I honestly don't know how else you'd go about seceding without the Army's help), the president would simply declare Martial law in those states and deploy the Military to stop the uprisings.

But yes, if all the southern stationed military units and all decided to fight the North, you'd probably win.

Well since the armed forces take an oath to uphold the constitution and seceding was deemed unconstitutional, the army would fight against the seceding states, probably. Also, why would the South secede anyway? What would they stand to gain by seceding from the US?

Living in California, I'm sure we will side with the Union. Sure we have a lot of rednecks in this state that will want to side with the Confederacy. But they get jack shit in say when in comes to decisions because its the cities that will side with the Union that generates all of the revenue. And yes we will keep the Mexicans we have. If the rednecks decide to revolt, we'll just replace them with the Mexicans.

However, if Virginia sides with the Confederacy again, we may be fucked this time around.

Don't you think at that point - all out Civil War - wealth/"Finances" would be determined more by a material standard like gold, and less by a fiat standard that would probably be decimated by the turmoil?

That's the point - the confederates promise Mexico that they'll recognize California as part of Mexico and provide logistical support, ect.
Mexicans invade California, and the confederates (hopefully) don't end up with a second front in Texas and whatnot, which could easily happen if they don't get Mexico on side.
