I've got a beat to hell 1987 Dodge Dakota SE as the title suggests. Needs some work, mostly just a new engine and I want to put in something with a little more gut than then 3.9 liter V6 any suggestions?

Cummins Turbodiesel.
Srsly though.... what for? Seems pointless. I dunno much about that year but I assume either the 318 or 360 are an easy swap.

Cummins Turbodiesel.

Somebody out there makes motor mounts for SBMs. Stick one of those in.

mmmmmmmmmm....
OH you fuckin know it~!
My friend has a shortbed 6 speed newer dodge ram w.the cummins and some basic boost management and intake/exhaust work and WOW. I literally lost my hat out the window one night. Not to mention the sounds.... or the sex....iness.
Carbed 318 would be a good choice.
But, that 3.9 is a good motor. My wifes dakota has over 250k miles on it with no major engine work done. (knocks on wood) It's not the most powerful thing out there but it gets the job done reliably.
