Anyways its Remembrance/Armistice day here today too. Its 90 years since the end of WW1 today so there's been a lot of coverage about it here.

Do I appreciate " their brave sacrifice", how they "died for us"?

When I see the the rows and rows of WW1 war graves then my only thought is YOU FOOLS. YOU ABSOLUTE FUCKING DONKEYS!

70,000 lives lost taking a couple of kilometers of Flanders farm land , poor farm land at that. Then another 250,000 live lost redefending it again and losing it AGAIN (and those are just the Brit war dead, fuck knows how many Germans died).

Can anyone tell me it was worth that price?

Is any land worth that?

I've never heard of anyone saying they joined solely to "serve their country" and they'd be lying if they did. We all joined for many different reasons, very few of them so noble.

I hope that your little kids never have to put on a uniform. If you advocate fighting for money or fun, you've obviously never been in and you've never been in a life-or-death situation. I've buried 3 people and came within an inch of being buried, myself - that was less than a year BEFORE I went to my first station. The fact that you'd tell your kids to be so irresponsible as to kill for money or fun or any other worldly idea tells me that you need to seek help. Take drugs or STOP taking drugs, but do something.

I was refering mainly to the WW1. Far as I can tell, lot of them did join up because they genuinely felt it was their duty.

Thats based on my experience. A small percentage of men who join the army do so because they get to use a gun and maybe even kill someone. They might not admit it even to themselves but its true. All army shrinks know this, the question is always how far such people can keep themselves under control. There is a place for people who enjoy killing in every army, usually some branch of the special forces-again based on my experience of them.
