For a language that is one of the most studied in the world, there seems to be a dire lack of decent, comprehensive material available to learn it as a beginner - even less so than some more obscure languages. Most of the material available seems to be aimed at half-hearted learners who simply want to learn phrases for a trip, and don't really care about the grammar of what they're saying, simply how to say it.

Are there any Spanish courses any of you could suggest, specifically for European Spanish, although, if it's very good I would considering buying a South American Spanish course as essentially they're obviously the same language. I've looked at the course "Hugo Spanish in 3 Months", is it any good? Obviously, you aren't going to be fluent, or probably even conversational in 3 months, but it looks like a pretty good foundation. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Thanks

Pimsleur. Audio only, half hour lesson per day (no more, no less), listen 'n' repeat. You pick it up before you know it.

It's expensive, but you can get it used pretty reasonably.
