Here is some pictures of my new blade I just got for my birthday. It is a German hand made bowie made by Puma. The blade is handforged. and 6 inches long. It has a a genuine stag handle and is a full tang razor sharp blade. It measures 11 inches total. I also got it as a gift so it has my initials engraved in it. It definetly is not a chinese piece of shit that you see most of the time. It was 89.00$. This knife will go with my SHTF stuff and it will be used for hunting. Also Puma has a nice warranty on it. Though I am not sure if it has to be sent to Germany but you can send it in for any repairs/sharpening for free. Which I may just have someone sharpen it for me because I am notorious for ruining edges.

What do you knife guys think of puma?

What do you guys think of it.

Anything bad about puma? It seems like a decent knife. i will have to wait till arms merchant comes around he will know. It is a really nice knife though. I really like the stag handle.

Its plenty big for my taste, but I don't have to carry it. Puma is supposed to make some nice hardware.

Yeah, it is rather large. But it does not necessarily have to be carried on the belt and it wont be carried all of the time. Also it could be carried in a pack if necessary. It definetly is high quality compared to some of the chinese crap bowies I have seen.

TA DA! I'm here. Ahem.

Puma is one of the great brands of knives, but for some reason, was more popular in the south. My Pennsylvania granddaddy carried a Case--I would bet his southern counterpart had a Puma, if not a Buck.

Many if not most Pumas are now made in China, not that there is anything wrong with that. I carry a small Puma gent's knife, similar to a Victorinox classic, only with a buffalo horn handle.

BTW, there was an embargo on stag for, oh heck, maybe ten years. Now stag is becoming more prevalent. Less expensive is "bonestag," which is--as the name implies--bone which is carved and dyed to look like stag.

Interesting. Well, this one says made in germany on the blade. Are they just bsing and it is actually chinese. I am sure there are very nice chinese blades anyway but it is just not whta you typically see. You typically see cheapo crap coming out of china.

Ty though, we can always count on you for knife info. And supposedly it is genuine stag "Genuine staghorn handle is hand-fit", Also they are a little tricky because it says genuine german steel so the knife may very well be made in china.
"Razor sharp hand-forged and laser-cut fixed 6" stainless steel blade, honed from a solid steel bar; Special D1.4 German stainless steel; Rockwell tested to 57-59 HRC for blade hardness and strength; Over 150 production hand operations; Full-tang construction for solid strength"

so does this mean they just get the steel in germany, or is the blade made in germany?

Also, I heard that some of the modern pumas are produced in spain now.

Probably the whole thing--blade and all --was made in germany.

Many US-company knives are imported, including Buck--nothing wrong with that. Far as I know, only Case and Bear Magic knives are all US-made. Even Marbles--an old-line, high-end American company--is outsourcing.

It may well be that some Pumas are made in Spain--I know that some Camilluses were.

I rather doubt it's handforged.

Considering modern production techniques and such there really is no reason for it and it would just make the blade overly expensive for no real benefit (well, depending exactly how you're making it, forging may be superior, but any good modern production technique will do fine). Also, that polish you can see on it, how it goes across the blade instead of down it, means it was machine polished, if it was done by hand it would probably go down the blade, towards the point.

It could be hand forged still. what you are saying just would indicate it is not hand polished. It is probably not hand polished or sharpened.

I got a TOPS Lone Falcone as a SHTF knife. It's not that impressive, but it is handmade, so it's pretty cool. Edge rusts easy, so must be kept oiled. Expensive cunt.

I like the sheath. I keep a blastmatch and a sharpening stone in the little pocket (I think, can't remember, will have to check the bags).

I got one of them SEAL 2000 knives as a dive/fishing/spearfishing knife. Don't believe that shit about the 2 week saltwater immersion bullshit. It will rust. I took it to the beach, fishing, fossicking for bait, didn't clean it, and 2 days later it had rust on it.

It was surface rust and it came off with a finger rub though.

Get a Jewelstik, a Lansky set, and one of them yellow things that has ceramic and carbide whatevers on it for sharpening and is fixed at some angle, somewhere between 30-15 degrees (I can't remember what it is, once again, must consult bag(s)) and you will never go wrong. Piece of piss.

geeze i looked that tops up and it is pricey. and i thought my puma was pricey. i dont have to worry about rusting as much since i live in the sonoran desert. But up north it is a little more moist.
