View Full Version : Brabus B10 for E430

I've recently been inspired by a friend at my school who owns a Mercedes C240.
Brabus B9, lightening, (And not just shitty lightening, it's still balanced towards the middle), tuned, and chip'd.
I took a ride in it, and god damn it was phenomenal. Quick, comfortable, and damn good looking too.
It's inspired me to do the same to my car, my E430. Granted it's older, has more miles, and is much heavier. I have been working on this for quite a while, and have started saving my money to make something phenomenal. I have about 2k put away for this car, which is probably enough for 1/2 of what's involved.
I've thought about replacing all the gaskets, get some more life out of the engine.
Brabus B10 kit, True re-done dual exhaust, and that's really about all of my rational ideas.
For my one irrational idea. A low-boost turbo. I know it seems insane due to the nature of the car, but hell, why not?
Comment me, flame me, call me retarded, but what do you think? If you do decide to flame me/call me retarded, have a reason. I'm open to criticism.

i saw the newer clk brabus b10 at a euro meet today. and an e55, f430, three 308s, 240z with an rb26dett, bunches of m3s e46 and e90s, original mini, flat black new mini, a caterham 7, lotus elise, and bunches of 911's. i creamed my pants. i'll post pictures later. the amount of eye candy was amazing

this was a shot of the motor in the z, it's a full jdm spec rb26dett, unmodified, except for an intercooler custom made for that application, older white dude owned in, and since i'm in cali, motor swaps like this are technically illegal, but the exhaust wasn't loud at all, actually sounded pretty oem. had the car fully rotissery seam welded all around the chassis. said its the stiffest unibody z, and fully dyamat interior. amazing piece of machinery, if i wasnt chatting it up with him for a while i would have taken more pictures

Brabus 6.1 kit. Scary fast. Pushing 450 at the wheels.
EDIT: Also, does anyone know where to buy Brabus parts? I see hundreds of things listing Brabus parts for what car and what not, but I can't seem to find any place that sells it.

yeah i really didnt know exactly what was in the 6.1, so had to check the brabus site.
"CLK 500 (W209) (C209)
Power enhancement by displacement enlargement 6.1 by use of a special crank shaft, piston rod and enlarged bore with appropriate pistons. The suction and the outlet section of both 3-ventile-cylinder heads are flow-optimized and finetuned with two special camshafts according to the displacement. For better filling larger valves are used. The modification is completed by a back pressure lowering metal- catalytic converter (four monoliths with a full OBD II suitability) and special attuned engine electronics. "

nothing quite like a cls v-12 that can hit 220+ mph.

since brabus buys cls 500 / 550's and throw in the v-12, it counts as a production car, and it holds the record for the fastest production 4-door
their e-v12 used to have that record. i would kill multiple people for one.

It wouldn't occur to you that it's translated almost directly from German, would it? When have you heard "ventile" used as a word for valve? Never, it's the German word for valve.

What's your point dude? I figured he was making the point that the engine really hasn't had all that much work done to it, which still stands, and still would even if that document was originally written in Uzbek.

yeah, i did get it from the english version of a site who's default language is german:
brabus.com
so, the weird grammar isn't too surprising.
it only makes 420 hp / 426 ps and 457 ft/lb of torque,
pretty impressive, but the newer AMG 6.3 makes 508 hp or so in the clk 63 amg and even more in the black edition (check it out, one amazing car.)

I find it kinda funny (I find it kinda sad..) that you German fanboys are completely oblivious to how -un-impressive this all is nowadays. 5 years ago it might have been impressive, but even in the last 3 it's been nothing but dissapointment.
I don't know and don't claim to know what's going on here in respect to why they're so developmentally delayed recently, but here's a few ideas (any, or a combination of):
1) They're diverting money to developing lighter bodies and chassis' that can once again open up the gap between them and the companies they look down upon (GM and other companies, which are making fucken good platforms nowadays).
2) They've kept their development at the same rate as always, and are working as hard as ever, but the monster companies have more resources and are more willing to ride the fine line between investing and bankrupting to create superior engines and thus are able to produce better shit than these German fellahs can / will.
3) They've mostly given up on fuel and operating efficiency for high output engines, because it's quite possible that it'd be throwing a fortune into a market that is or will be on the edge of death.
4) They've decided that even though other companies are making higher performance engines, they're not going to develop theirs any further in terms of power. They believe they've reached the highest point they need to already.
5) They're too conservative to get caught up in the horsepower wars, and don't wish to sell out their image and tradition (Even though they already have cheapened their image in some ways).
6) They've realised that for now they simply cannot play with the big boys, so they will only spend a small amount of money half assing it instead of a large amount and still half assing it.

Everyone and their dog is either doing direct injection, or has already done it. Porsche only did that to keep their head above the water. Hardly an advance, and their results aren't special or atypical.

^^ Are you basically saying benz isn't making complicated enough engines.... and to a lesser extent, platforms overall? Sorry if I'm misunderstanding here....
EDIT: I see you may have meant more makes than mercedes, so I dunno, although what I said still stands. I'd still like for you to point out some specifics, you know... stuff that might make me like the new BMW engines, porsches, volvo R's and stuff any less??
It seems that they're doing well enough although I'm far from a fanboy or 'in the know'. All I know is most of their basic models and the basic stats of said models. A car in that class doesn't have to have huge hp/l numbers or be efficient, or light for that matter.
Besides, the fucking things are complicated (overengineered?) as hell already. Where does reliability and streetability come into your critique? What is so bad about their stuff specifically?
Have you ridden in one? I fucking loved the things from the early 90's t/d and 300E I drove to the mid 90's 600 I got to drive (once). Other than that, I've ridden in a newer 430 and one of the better AMG ones (not the 63, the next one down). They were fucking great luxury cars, and the AMG was a fast motherfuck stock (maybe a little "supercar shock" on my part) and it can be made much faster pretty easily.
They are, in essence, LUXURY cars dude. On that point, I see no fault with them. I loved the feeling of the 600... like a yacht or a floating tank, plus decent power. Even the smaller ones have that solid steel feeling to them, just less scoot. From the ride in the AMG to what I've heard, their new and sportier models can crank it nicely on a track now, too.

1.4L TSI making 180 hp, turbo and supercharged, with 47.9 mpg (imperial)
primitive eh?
in my car, an 06, adaptive bi-xenon's and a 2.0L turbocharged motor giving me 30 mpg in real life, with a car that weights 3600 lbs or so, with awd? its rated at 32 mpg on the highway, but i've gotten 34+ mpg measuring actual mpg.
and fsi is direct injection with an electric charge applied to it, making more power, and better efficiency than regular direct injection (pioneered in the original R8 (LMP1 class race car)
these things arent compilcated at all, with a computer and an usb to obd-2 cable, i can diagnose most problems.) and also a longitudnal motor, like most euros (all audis except the a3 and tt, and vws) is way easy to work on. if i didnt have to jack up my older a4 to drain the fluids, i coulda replaced the turbo in a parking lot, all i had to do to take it out was get the airbox out of the way. and the old audi a1 made 90 mpg imperial / 78 mpg us.
with the new 2.0tfsi, it got a timing chain, and peak torque of 258 ft/lb at 1700 rpm to 5k rpm?
and not being caught up in horsepower wars? look at about 10 years ago, audi had the s4 with 265 hp (or rs4 with 380hp ), mercedes had the c43 amg with 302 hp, and bmw had the e36 m3 with 282 hp (USDM version had 240). now the s4 has 354 hp (rs4 with 420 hp), mercedes has the c63 amg with 451 hp, and the e90/92 m3 has 400 hp.
...... not being caught up in horsepower wars my ass
in the financials, the auto industry as a whole is bleeding, but vw and audi have continued to become profitable, hell if you look at the stocks, all the other auto makers have tanked, while vw's shares have gotten higher in value.
on 28 oct 2008, vw's shares jumped 93% due to talks of porsche gaining more control, it was at $773 before, now it settled to $365
at that same time other companies stock was at:
$ 70.98 Toyota
$ 35.78 Hyundai
$ 6.25 GM
$ 2.15 FORD
$ 9.56 Nissan
the new B8 audi a4 is 1.3" shorter than the previous generation a6, yet only gains 50 lbs, and a better weight distribution. with all the draconian safety laws in europe, cars are getting heavier and heavier, american cars are getting to be porkers as well, with the srt-8 challenger weighing in at 4140 lbs
about financial situations, audi was the only company that hasnt had a loss in the us this year besides vw (in cars sold)
every car company has their buzz words:
ecoboost, 5.0 H.O., 455 sd, vtec, sh-awd, asc, ecotec, mi-vtec, northstar, HEMI, just to name a few random ones. marketing people make that shit happen, what sounds better to you fuel stratified injection (fsi) or direct injection with a static charge? variable intake timing or v-tec? we live in a society of buzzwords, face it
the original talk was about a car from the mid 90's and a kit for it that made 420 hp, not too impressive by todays standards, but much better than the 280 hp or so it made stock, and without adding forced induction.
american cars only have one forced induction gas engine, the ecotec (which they had to switch to turbos to make it competitive, the ss supercharged cobalt was a joke, performance wise) european cars have had to work on emissions and effieceny harder than american companies because some countries tax based on co2 emissions.
the way the big-3 are in the us, its a joke, they're failing miserably and having to be bailed out, uaw is sucking the money out of gm, unions and pensions are killing them. now the germans are working on power with efficiency (and ford is too with the ecoboost). look at the 335i bmw, using turbos to make the power and torque of a v-8 in the package of an i-6, audi switching to a 3.0L supercharged motor to replace the 4.2L v-8 in the S4, with more power, and more torque, with better efficiency.

the point that i was making was that the many thousands of dollars spent to get that fancy brabus upgrade would do nothing more complex than what those stinky rednecks have been doing to their sbc 350 for decades now
the point is an engine is an engine, be it european, japanese, american or otherwise.
on an unrelated note,...for the most part i prefer european cars. but the damn fanboys almost make me ashamed of that fact.

Yup, because I sure do want a 350 in my Mercedes E430. Thats at the top of my aspirations list :rolleyes:
A 6.1 Brabus is much better than a 350, even 454 Chevy. The whole point of a Mercedes is that it's a fast luxury car, not some shitty, rusted 7.2l pickup truck with 33" tires. It's supposed to be comfortable, reliable, smooth, easy to drive, not some huge fucking Chevy block thrown into a car.
This post makes me sound like I don't like Chevy small blocks and old cars. I love them. In fact, the Chevy small block happens to be my favorite engine. Ever. I just don't like it when people compare things to others, when in fact the two things don't compare at all. Comparing a SBC to a Brabus 6.1 is just madness, they contrast in every way.
What I'm trying to say is that there's a huge difference between throwing a SBC into a Camaro and throwing a Brabus into a Mercedes.
