Just in case it interests you, Jeff, I was one of the so-called "Hacker Modz", but I had nothing to do with this, even though many were insisting I did.

I came home from work one day to find out I'd been modded, and when I asked about it, I was advised by the moderator team that you yourself had modded me for helping to recover three moderator accounts which had been hacked. I was overjoyed, since I had been working hard making good posts in B&M since I registered in 2006, and I had thought all the hard work had finally paid off, and I got the spot I had been looking for. Acidmelt and zok congratulated and welcomed me, and there was hugs all around (except for wires, of course).

After modding in a decent manner, (according to Metaphysicist, anyways) for a few weeks, I was demodded, after being advised the appointment was not initiated by the usual means, and I was advised my promotion was really invalid, and I was therefore removed.

I was advised I COULD be considered at a later time, IF a forum required the assist, and asked for the promotion. Just thought I'd let you know that ONE of your hardest workers here was slighted by Bob (the hacker), feels wounded to the core, and can be of use to you on this site as more than a regular poster. And now, I must retire to my bedroom to consider my untimely downfall.

Jackketch has already outlined for everyone who needs to be in-the-know how the administrator account hack was accomplished, and alluded to who really did it by using a pseudonym for the would-be hacker. The other three moderator accounts had also been hacked, and I was able to re-hack them back to Totse, by obtaining the passwords from the hacker of those accounts, then returning the passwords to zok (along with all associated Totse e-mail accounts, which had also been commandeered). Zok thanked me in public for retrieving those accounts. Mok was one of them, and he now enjoys full use of his moderator account even to this day. Don't be so cynical about all I've done to help better this place.

Jeff is probably using what little time he has to repair the damage. Restorations are tricky. Think about the sheer size and volume of posts on HB before it was deleted. It isn't just a cut 'n paste job, especially if you don't want to lose or misfile what has been posted since.

I gotta admit, all the time I've been posting here......I've pretty much held Jeff in pretty high regard. Admittedly I was somewhat starstruck, thinking....."Wow, he must be a super cool dude to have originated all of this. And maintain it in whatever capacity all of these years."

But after seeing this, I'm quite taken aback and kind of miffed at the whole thing. Also Zok isn't really the villain of the piece, nor acidmelt. The real villains are every single one of us old schoolers who didn't protest when the anti-freedom of speech movement here started rolling. We are all guilty and we're only getting the totse we deserve.

Mea culpa, I should have stood up early and been more vocal. The rot didn't start with "Together We Swerve", it started way way before that....before the change over even.

Now we're stuck with mods who are scared to say what they think in public (in private most of us are still pretty vocal), who see their forums as fiefdoms and who can only envisage totse in their own image.

Oh and incase anyone is remotely interested in what I think, I think the rot really set in with the Infraction System (although there were signs before the change over too). I think the infraction system is probably the single biggest danger for this site.

The site needs to be refreshed. Get some new blood in alongside the old mods. Bckpkr or whatever his name is would make a fine mod of OI for example and he's always here and posting.

Do you really expect these people, who alone have the power to do what you are suggesting, but have made it known many times they do not care about such things, to take your thoughts seriously? This problem and the one of a lack of real moderation in forums is easily solved by adding in some new blood (no not me :rolleyes:) to shake things up. Otherwise you have the same old, stale opinions and members running things.

The posts that were deleted still don't link up when you do a search and they are still gone from post count. I don't care about the post count, but I would like the search to work.

It sounds to me (Never used vBul) that perhaps Jeff didn't re-sync all the forums (or hasn't yet) when he restored HB, which may fix this problem, but may also create MAJOR site lag as it is restoring.

I am experiencing a major lag. It's been that way for the past week or so. Some page loads are lightning fast, others take as long as 3 minutes to load.

Page loads are MUCH faster now. Looks like system maintenance is just about complete. Great job this time, Jeff. You rock man. No doubt, there was a lot to update there.
