I'm athletic and fit, but quite skinny (65kg). I want a bow to kill small animals like rabbits, possums, birds and possibly small pigs.

I'm looking for a compound bow bellow $200, I don't care if that's cheap, I just need the most basic bow, no bells and whistles.

So how many lb's would you say I should get? Because I saw a youth bow that was 35lb's and I really liked it because it was small, light and cheap. I also saw a 45lb bow that was pretty cheap. Opinions appreciated.

Google says 65 kilos is only 143 pounds for all my fellow Americans in here. Damn you're small boy!

Well get a bb/pellet gun for things like that. How the hell are you going to hit a bird with an arrow? I will have to see pics of that one. And dude dont kill opossums they are actually very great rodent killers. They also kill snakes and are great insect controllers. So dude DONT KILL OPOSSUMS.
Your weight really shouldnt matter it is more your strength. You need to go and test which bows you can handle drawing back and then you will know what kind of weight you can draw.? Get the bow for things that are larger like pigs and deer. For the small stuff a bb/pellet gun would be better suited.

Unfortunately I can't. They require a license.

How the hell are you going to hit a bird with an arrow?

I figured a bird that was sitting still and in a tree is as easy to hit as any regular target, no?

Mate, what the fuck in an OPOSSUM? Where I'm from we've got possums. It's a marsupial that sits in trees, has big ass eyes and hisses at you. Like a creepy evil squirrel.

I'm pretty much as strong as some one my height and weight can be. That's why I said I'm athletic and fit.

I can't. Bows in stores are outside of my budget, I'm buying it off ebay.

Dude that is how you spell it. It is spelled opossum in english. And I know what it is obviously since I described its eating habits. It may be spelled possum in aus but here in the US, for some reason it is spelled opossum. And creepy or not, atleast here in the US they are GOOD to have around.

Well you dont have to buy the bow at the store but that does not mean you cant go find out what draw weight works for you.And i would be careful getting it from ebay. That is just asking to get a chinese piece of shit that wont last more than a week.

And what about a recurve bow? They are still decent and as effective as compound. You can reload them faster and they are quieter. they fit alot of the acessories of a compund i am pretty sure atleast. You cannot sit there and hold it drawn back forever though because they dont have cams that lock or cams at all. They are also cheaper for a decent model. You can get a decent one for under 200 and not from ebay.

Compund bows are not heavy. Recurves are not heavy. Long bows are not heavy. The compund i am getting weighs 4 lbs.

I think I'll take your advice and get a recurve then. I like the idea of going into a store and gauging how comfortable I feel with the draw back.

I guess buying off ebay wouldn't be the best idea.

Also the two animals names are pretty different animals. Just thought I'd clarify so I'm not deemed some cunt who kills cool animals.

So something like this: http://tinyurl.com/5vgvdj would not be recommended?

And I should rather get something like this: http://tinyurl.com/57x5jf?

And I should rather get something like this: http://tinyurl.com/57x5jf?Whatever you get you want to get a known brand. Because, if those random ones off ebay break(espeacialy the compound) you will never find the parts to repair them. I mean you can get it but that doesnt look like a well known brand. I typed it in on google and the only place thart sells it is that same ebay page which means you probably wont be able to find parts.Who But i think a recurve would suit you just fine.
Now I am no bow expert so you need to wait until someone more experienced comes along like groundhog whacka and there are a few others.
but you definetly should go to a archery place and feel some bows out to figure out what draw length works for you and see if you like the recurve over the compound. They both have their drawbacks. If you are going to get a recurve all of the name brands make them for pretty cheap.

these are decent and in your price range:
www.pse-archery.com/prod.php?k=135538&sk=135538&u=3735Bow
www.pse-archery.com/prod.php?k=135538&sk=135538&u=3740

www.pse-archery.com/prod.php?k=135538&sk=135538&u=3726Bow

Companies you may want to look at:
PSE
Browning
Martin archery
Diamond archery bows
alpine archery
martin archery
most of these known companies make cheaper compound bows in your price range. There are many other companies also.

If your going with the compound the best thing to do would be to get a ready-to-use compound bow kit that comes with EVERYthing you need to start, most dont come with arrow. But it comes with the bow tuned, sights, arrow holder/quiver
For example:www.addictedtoarchery.com/browning-micro-midas-3-hyper-cam-bow-woptional-pkg-168.html
the package is .$257.00 USD
seriously just get something name brand so you can find replacement parts if it breaks.

and dude I dont know how to make this anymore clear a opossum is a POSSUM. We have them here in the US and I am pretty sure they are the only marsupial in the US. But I guess they are not closely related to their aussie counter parts. That is why they are called opossums here and possums over there. But I am not sure if your guy's possums are good pest and varmint controllers like the ones in north america. But if they eat and kill the same stuff then leave them alone because here atleast, they a good to have around. For example our barn in north carolina had a huge mouse and rodent problem, a opossum took up residence in the barn and the mouse and rodent problem was done with.
Also:
"As a native species in Australia, possums are protected by Australian regulations, even when they reside in urban neighbourhoods, and cannot be baited. If captured, regulations stipulate that they must be released within a small radius of the capture site as they are territorial creatures" but i guess in NZ they are a problem. And I guess they are considered pests there because they get into gardens and such. So have at it I suppose if you are in AUS you need to be careful of the legal reprocussions of poaching possums!

You can set the pull on a compound bow.

If it's too much, loosen it.

That's why it's a compound bow.

It may be cool to make your own. but a homemade bow will never compare to a compound or modern recurve. Or eve a traditional long bow for that matter.

I ended up getting the pse stinger. costed me 500 out the door for the package deal. I also got 6 carbon arrows anda release and 12 field tips with it.

Op you DO NOT want to order a bow offline. You need to go to a store and buy it. They have to measure you,set bow up, and cut your arrows for you. If you do what you plan then you will end up with a bow that doesnt fit yoou properly.

You're overestimating how important this bow is for me. I go camping. When I go camping I try and be as self sufficient as possible. I catch fish, easily, with a $49 fishing set up. That's line, reel, rod and tackle - $49. Cheap as shit and works fine.

Why would I spend hundreds of hard earned dollars to shoot and eat a rabbit? Do I need to shoot it from a few hundred yards? Didn't hunters thousands of years ago have shitty bows compared to today? Yet they still caught things. Make sure you approach from downwind, get as close as you can, take aim, shoot. If I miss, oh well, it's not the end of the world and it's not like I wont get another chance. But that "Miss" wasn't worth spending an extra few hundred on a better bow.

I'd rather spend less and take twice as long to kill something, because it's NOT that important to me and I just can't justify spending a lot on a bow. I just want to know what a good draw weight is.

I hope you guys get where I'm coming from.

Dude seriously you will thank me later. They have cheap NAME BRAND ones at the store and they will set it up and adjust it to YOUR SPECS. Chances are that compound you were looking at is not going to fit you properly. You dont even know your draw length. Draw weight on most bows can be adjusted as it was said so can the length(to a certain point depending on the bow) but you are not going to know what to do and who knows if that black pig is adjustable.
You may fit a youth bow easily. Which is cheap. But they have cheap bows also at the stores(like I told you in the first place)

Didelphimorphia is the order of common opossums of the Western Hemisphere. They are commonly also called possums, though that term is also applied to Australian fauna of the suborder Phalangeriformes.
opossum =/= possum.

anyway. here in australia, although even airsofts are restricted, they arent exactly hard to get.

ive got one from overseas

anyway, i have made a crude bow one time, and am in the process of creating a crossbow
