Anyone here have any experience with being, or knowing, an officer in the USMC? I've decided I want to become an officer, but am having trouble finding any first hand accounts of what life is like.

Also, any officer in the services is welcome to share too, I'd like as much on this as possible

I've meet several Marine officers, through my civilian job. As an officer in the Marine Corps, you can expect to be held to much higher standards than enlisted members, both physical fitness standards, and leadership/discipline standards.

I have 8 years experience as being a Marine enlisted, have many Officer friends.
What you really need to figure out is what do you want to do as a career in the Marines. Do you want to push paperwork or train with weapons, parachute, etc.

As an officer from Lieutenant through Captain you get to play and get in on the action. After Captain you are stuck on the sidelines planning all the fun that the enlisted people will be doing.

Using the term loosely of course.

I really would like to do the ground engagement sort of MOS, any of the 03XX types. How much do you usually advance from 2nd Lt. in a 4 year commitment?

In the Army, 2LT to LT will be pretty damned quick once you get to your unit, usually about 6 months. The majority of your time as a 2LT will be spent training (BOLCII/III).
