New York State here.. my license was revoked (should be getting it back soon) and I'm wondering how I can register/insure my motorcycle without having a valid drivers license. If I was to get a bike permit and go through the whole class to get a motorcycle license, is that completely separate from a regular drivers license?
Also, when I register the bike with the dmv, do I need insurance to even register it?

The DMV will ask for proof of insurance before they give you a reg and prior to that the insurance company will ask to see your permit/license.
As for being able to get a permit while having your class D suspended, I dunno. These days, probably not, but who knows? When I got an OUI on my motorcycle, I did lose my class D, I dunno if it depends on the offense..... I doubt they would have taken my D with my M if it hadn't been a drinking offense. Just getting the permit in general though, is incredibly simple. Just watch out for the couple of absolutely fucking retarded, nonsense questions.
<obvious> PROTIP: Don't ever drink on your motorcycle. I'd show you a picture of why not to but I dunno how to post img (haha, look at me I fail @ internets and so on).
What kinda bike you gettin?

Since I've never ridden on the road (only on dirt bikes) I wanted to be able to go off-roading, I bought a dual sport. Suzuki DR200SE to be exact, it was a left over model and I got it for $3400 brand new.
I like the fact that I'll be able to hit the trails and ride on the roads all on one machine.

The only thing that needs to go is the ugly headlight, I want to find a new headlamp and maybe a shroud to replace it.

There are a lot of options. It's just a matter of disconnecting two wires and reconnecting them to the new lights.

Surely it's a minimum of 3?
