well if you live in America, it is just about that time of year again. the time of year we celebrate the slaughter of a culture by feasting like pigs. then settling down to watch grown men run into each other over an oval ball.
man this is my favorite holiday an i cant wait for it. my family always travels down to illinois for a big reunion. this is our menu, almost every recipe comes from the southern living cookbook.
. turkey
. ham
. free range chicken

. cranberry relish from an ocean spray can
. homemade cranberry relish

. smashed potatoes an gravy
. roasted root vegetables
. tossed salad
. yeast rolls
for dessert
. pumpkin pie
. pecan pie
. chocolate pecan pie
. coffee cheese cake
. snickerdoodel cookies
. apple pie
. chocolate cake
all washed down with lots of warm apple cider, wine, beer, an coffee.
i know that looks like alot of food, but we have a big family. about 50 show up every year. and added to the normal thanksgiving traditions a new one has started up over the last few years in our family. the tradition of getting really high with every one over 15 an under 70 before the meal. man i love my family an this holiday.
so OI what are your traditions, what does your menu look like, an can you get any more excited for Thanksgiving?!?
I quite love Thanksgiving. It is definitely my favorite holiday.
The Menu
Gravy
Dinner Rolls

Fresh Stuffing

The Dessert

And I'm sure there'll be more.
Then we men will gather around the living room television to watch football and drink whilst the women stand in the kitchen waving their wine glasses about and trading recipes. I'll don my cowboy hat and claim my place in the recliner, my dad will curse Dallas for every mistake they make, and various male relatives between the ages of 14 and 24 will be in and out the back door toking and coming in for munchies.

It is quite tasty.
I bought several bottles of French cider at Jungle Jim's not too long ago for the occasion. I'm pretty sure it's the largest grocery store in the country, and it definitely has the best selection.

I think that holiday looks and sounds brilliant, Quite interesting how both the families smoke weed, is this common in the U.S? Wish we had thanksgiving in England, We have a really good Christmas which is nice. As this is basically our version of thanksgiving ill post what we normally have.

We have a small family(only three people since my mom and uncle hate eachother now), but we still make
Turkey(citrus glazed)
Mashed potatoes(with caramelized onions and peas)
Cornbread and country sausage dressing
Green bean casserole
baked sweat potatoes
homemade cranberry sauce
homemade rolls
Suffice to say, we always have a lot of leftovers(great for me since I easily get ten meals out of those leftovers).
...
You've inspired me to put together a little cheese-board for my family this Thanksgiving. I'm sure they'll quite like it.
Oh, and concerning marijuana consumption ... it's quite common in the U.S., though perhaps not nearly as much as one might think between family members. I no longer toke but used to smoke with my father on a daily basis for approximately a year and a half.

heh i live in australia, even though we killed most of our natives, we dont celebrate it, which is a shame.
really, down here we just have the regular christmas and easter celebrations and we celebrate our national day on january 26, where we just eat a whole lot of barbecued meat and several litres of beer while watching the cricket

Sausages wrapped in bacon (Pigs in blankets ^^)
I thought pigs in blankets were little sausages wrapped in pastry
edit: turns out in the US it's pastry, the UK it's bacon. strange.

ITT: Bckpckr the American dedicates himself to helping Mantikore begin an Australian holiday tradition celebrating the genocide of natives. :)
