booking the trip within the next week or so...myself and a handful of buddies are going. I went for 3 nights in the summer and spent about 175 in addition to hotel, gas, and parking. What would a reasonable amount to spend be on new years?

Also, anyone in the area have recommendations? I went to Oprah a night with a chum and, although it was superficial/kinda gay, i can see how it would be great for New Years. Am I correct in thinking this? If not, where else should I look to go other than random bars?

any help is appreciated, thanks!

My friends and I went to Montreal for new years this past year, it was a great time.

Since you've been there before, obviously I'm sure you know that all the trendy places are on St. Laurent and St. Catherine... probably spelled one of those incorrectly.

Bring a lot of money. I somehow spent $30 on 1 drink at a club I remember. Eat lots of poutine as well, that shit is good.

Beware of prostitues, they are everywhere in that city. I got a lot of drug offers but be careful who you trust in a foreign city.

Canadian girls are easier to pick up, and it's fun to practice your french. If one of the days you spend in Montreal turns out to be really cold and shitty, going to the movies for some reason was a hell of a lot cheaper than in the states.

Montreal is just amazing in general, it truely aches me that it is probably difficult to gain citizenship to Canada to even dream of living there.

I hate Montreal. I live in a suburban city on the south shore. I dislike the people in general, not only from the city but the whole province of Quebec.
You might find it cool here since you're merely a tourist, but it sucks living here.
But hey, that's just my humble opinion.

Seriously, I'm fed up with this place, I want to emigrate somewhere that is far from here.
Sorry, I know this thread isn't about me, I just had an instant urge to rant.

I have to agree. It's nice during summer, but winter is hell in every way imaginable. They don't get rid of ice on the sidewalks, yet most of the city on a fucking incline, so walking anywhere is like risking your life. Not to mention, it's ice fucking cold for 3-4 months on top of that.

The people are...okay, I guess. I mean, girls are hot, but there are lots of douchebags and twats, and the people in general just don't seem to have as much "character" as Americans. The only good thing is that you won't really find groups of shady, obnoxious thugs roaming around like in America.

I don't mind the cold weather at all, but I understand it must be different for someone who hasn't lived her his/her whole life. The one thing I love about winter is snowboarding, which there are some really great places around for this (also including the Vermont state)
