I give myself projects over school vacations to keep from getting too bored. This year I'm re-designing a furby.

What I'm looking to do (if possible) is to make the Furby's voice either deeper or have two different tones, a low and a high. Ultimately I want it to sound all sorts of fucked up and nothing like what it sounded like before. I'd also like to avoid having a control panel coming out of it, buttons directly on the shell I can deal with.

I'm pretty sure I have most of the tools/materials needed (soldering iron/solder, those little stands with the clips and the magnifying glass) though I have very little soldering experience. I've also got a few friends with a bunch of Furbies so I can afford to fuck up once or twice.

So how would I do this?

Take a ~1.5K resistor, and start poking random stuff with it. If something sounds interesting, repeat with different resistor values. You can also use capacitors in the same manner. That's pretty much it.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. :)

I take it Radioshack has all this crap?

Yes, but for something this simple, it might be easier to pull a few random resistors and capacitors out of something else.

There is a few sites on the furby. They have not been updated due to the fact they don't sell retail anymore, but they are still useful.
The sites are:
