View Full Version : discontinued foods that you love

Don't you hate it when you try a new product and you really like it, only to find that it's been discontinued/is no longer at your supermarket?
Some of my favourites that have disappeared...
These snap and back chocolate chip cookies from the early 90s. They were so good, huge blocks of frozen cookie dough that smelled amazing when it baked. You can get different snap and bake ones now, but they're no where near as good.
Tilda brand tikka masala sauce. it was the only decent one from a jar and is no longer available in australia :( I even emailed the distributor asking if it would be back any time soon.
Pop tarts. That's right. You can only get them at specialty 'us foods' stores in Australia now. I liked the cinnamon ones.
So sad.
What food can't you find at YOUR local supermarket any more?

Also, whoever made the decision to get rid of mccain's woodfire pizza line deserves to be fired, severely beaten and flogged with a cat'o'ninetails or somesuch. It was quite simply the best frozen pizza, ever, and they went and replaced it with alfresco shit (which got replaced again quite quickly, probably because it was shit).

McDonald's Pizza, they only trialled it in England. I remember it from when I was about eight years old (so about fifteen years ago), but quite a few people seem to remember it.
3D Doritos were pretty cool. Dunno how they made them though.
Mountain Dew, I remember them selling that when I was a kid. Can't find it anywhere now though. And Walnut Whips had a 15-year period of absence too.
Hooch... and what was that other alcopop? Wallies? Can't really remember, probably because I was too drunk.
It surprises me how many of the foods that you guys listed that we still get in the states. The only things that I can't find that I really miss are;
Shrimp flavored Ramen:

This.
I can go to the store on the corner of my street and by some Dr. Pepper, Vanilla Coke, Mountain Dew & Pop Tarts right now. What surprises me is that these things are in no way "American" foods, and should be available everywhere IMO. There is no such thing as "American" food; it's just a bunch of other shit from other countries/peoples that we call our own. Example: The Hot Dog.
Peace.

Don't you hate it when you try a new product and you really like it, only to find that it's been discontinued/is no longer at your supermarket?
Shit yes, just know there are some things, but I can't think of them right now. Lays Texas BBQ and (a very specific type of, I think it was 3 month dry cured sopressa in intestine casing) Italian salami are two things I havent seen for at least 5 years. Last time I saw that was in Australia. A corner deli in Warnbro had them for about $2 a pop. I would kill for some of that stuff again.

So can I as well, with the addition of Pop rocks, Casava chips, and any kind of ramen you want (although Mi Goreng is the only choice I shall let you make, even though it's not purist's ramen). I haven't seen Cherry coke for years though.

According to wikipedia, the round ball shape that is new to us was the original Trix. Trix was only shaped like fruit from 1992 to 2008. Heh, I didn't know it changed though. I liked Trix, but it was never one of my favorite cereals.
edit: You know those fuckers went back to balls to cut costs of whatever machinery molded the shape of all those fruits. God everything sucks.

Soft drinks can only get better when vodka is added.
True, but after a solid 4 years of mixing vodka with random drinks every couple weekends, I'm gonna venture that it tastes way better with juice. And then your stomach can take more, because you don't have any carbonated whatever in you.

I've heard it's back on the market with the original formula. Perhaps a comeback is in order?
Well, excellent! If they have a website, surely it wouldn't be off the market. (http://www.clearly.ca/)

I think i speak for many totseans when i say:
7 motherfucking layered nachos.
Yes they were cheap, sloppy, and often times went soggy before you were done with them, yes they would probably give you the shits afterwards, but damnit there's something to be said for cheap taco bell food.

Do they still have Team Flakes anywhere? Or are those gone forever?
I also just remembered the bean chips they had at Trader Joe's. Those were great. We used to joke about how they needed corn dip.
:(
Made me laugh, thanks.

Holy fuck, those were awesome. I remember when they first came out for 99 cents, I'd get like 3 servings of them and have a meal. Then for a while they didn't advertise it but they kept selling them for $1.49 at my Taco Bell. But then one day they were gone altogether.
Reminds me of the Sourdough Bacon Cheeseburger at Burger King, which was also quite tasty. It was a limited time burger, but then at my BK they had a smaller version on the dollar menu for a few months after it was supposed to have been discontinued. Then, like the Nachos, it was gone entirely.
Fuck, now I'm hungry :(.

Livewire Mountain Dew is all that I can think of.
While most of the main grocers around here have discontinued a lot of older products, the dollar general sells mondos and all that good shit I used to love when I was a kid.

I hate all the other special mountain dews but baja blast is amazing. Sucks its exclusive to taco bell though
and its not really discontinued but the fanta in america is just orange soda. When I went to Serbia the Fanta was a lighter orange and tasted a hundred times better

Cheez-It Twisters, or Twisterz, or however they spell it. The "Cheddar and more Cheddar" flavor tasted like mac' n' cheese; "Cheddar and Ranch" was delicious too.
Haven't seen them in months.

The chocolate-macadamia Breaka was the absolute pimp shizzle. Greatest non alcoholic milk based drink ever made.
I also miss those poppers (I think the US term is "juice box") that had little bits of jelly (jello) in them.

Oh man, I forgot about that.
I found a very old can the other day and drank it and it was actually still alright.

OMG YES
Snickers Cruncher, I think it was called. That was awesome.
Was Snickers Cruncher marketed as an energy bar type thing? Also I don't really remember drinking Pepsi blue, but I loved Surge. Is Surge gone forever or did it mutate into that vile drink Vault?
i see warheads like at Kmarts and Targets not anywhere else but those were the shit..the apple and watermelon were soo good..havent had those in years. I used to get blisters from eating so many..
Ale-8...still popular in KY but here in OH it doesnt really get tossed around much..sometimes you can get it but not much.
I am not sure what all...else.
^ They still carry Warheads? Kickass, I remember eating those by the boxful in elementary school.
Doritos X-13D
This. I loved those chips.
Chef Boyardee used to have a can of chicken alfredo I liked as a snack and they stopped carrying them in my area.
Also, Count Chocula, Boo Berry, etc. There was a long time where I couldn't find any of those cereals at the grocery store.
I hear you can still get Surge, in Switzerland, but I guy will send it too you for like 100 bucks a case lol. I havent seen any Mello Yello in quite a while, Mesquite BBQ Pringles.
