cheap shit and full of sodium, but it's a great dinner and/or snack for the starving college student.
do you have any recipes to spice up top ramen?
and anything to hide the shame?

as a vegetarian, i don't like to eat the broth powder that comes with the noodles, so i just strain the water and add parmesan cheese and a little olive oil... it's so good
I eat this shit all the time. Why you ask, because I am, in fact, a starving college student.
When I prepare it, I almost always eat two at a time. After it's done cooking I get rid of most of the water, leave just a little in. And then I mix in the flavor packets and drench it in Crystal Hot Sauce. Mmmmm Mmmm Good.
i like ramen but instant lunch is better, it has a cup and everything.

Do a fucking search; there must be a dozen different threads involving ramen "recipes".
It's simple, cook noodles, add whatever meat/veggies/leftovers/seasonings are available.

I saw this wetback bitch do this for her 2 kid on the busride home the other day.
I could of reached over and slapped her. It's SOUP bitch, not chips.
Sorry.
I fucking hate ramen noodles. Grew up quite poor so we ate it quite regularly.

I always add crushed red pepper, texas pete, and a pinch of thyme. I only really get the chicken flavor though...

mmm ramen, as a college kid, an a poor kid i am intimately familiar with this stuff.
i like to add a slice of processed cheese to my broth. makes it all creamy.
crushed fritos sprinkled on top with only a bit of the broth reserved also owns.
Stir in a beaten egg with the broth after the stuff is cooked, makes it kinda like eggdrop ramen soup.
cook the noodles, drain em an dip em in beaten eggs, then deep fry em an sprinkle with the seasoning packet.
ramen is also good with peanut butter crackers crumbled up on top if only a bit of the broth is used
an then there is the ramen sandwich. cook your ramen an drain the noodles. then put it between two slices of wonder bread that have been spread with mayo. top with processed cheese an onions.
there are tons of things you can do with these wonderful noodles.

As OP correctly notes, ramen--though tasty--IS toxic.
Minimize the damage by taking magnesium supplements, say 250 mg twice a day. Also 150 mg of CoQ10, if you can afford it.
I usually drain the water add a beaten egg a bit of butter like half of the flavor packet and then drench it in hot sauce and top it with dried onions. Pretty damn good on dirt poor college kid budgets

Do you cook the egg?

Let it sit in boiling water until soft, drain, then fry it up in a bit of sesame oil. Add a pinch of flavor packet, and bon appetite.
Do you cook the egg?
yeah I just put it back on the heat for a minute or two while stirring the noodles

So I assume then that you don't microwave it?

Cook (stovetop), add about a quarter of the spice packet, add Tabasco as deemed necessary.
Does the spice packet have more sodium or does the noodles?

i think the spice packet has all the sodium. the noodles have all the calories cause they are deep fried before dried i think.

I'm pretty sure that the packet has all of the sodium.

Wait, are you saying sodium is toxic?...
Also, eat Sapporo Ichiban.
So I assume then that you don't microwave it?
no I don't atleast i'm sure you could though with no ill effects

That sounds fucking disgusting. Reminds me of kitty litter sandwiches on ren and stimpy or some shit.
Heh, as poor and college-y as I am, I've actually only had ramen noodles maybe....5 times, in the past year and a half. I'm just not a big fan of the stuff. It feels like work to eat it, and it's like I can taste the fact that it is doing nothing for my body at all. I don't get full from one bowl, I get tired from it and then cease wanting to eat. No way I could eat two.
I've been thinking about cooking the noodles and then instead of adding the flavor packet, adding some spaghetti sauce already made up, like Prego to make a ramen pasta dish.
Or adding tuna to chicken flavored ramen to make it like a tuna helper ramen dish. Heh as if tuna helper wasn't cheap and shitty enough.
i just made up a most amazing dinner from some ramen. took some frozen bell peppers fried them up in a little lemon-garlic margarine (I live with 3 vegans), threw in a veggie patty a drizzle of olive oil and some black peppers. meanwhile let the ramen cook, drained it and then threw all of it into a pot with a packet of soy sauce kind of stir-fry-esque. dumped it all into a bowl, topped with some Sriracha (if you haven't had this sauce yet be prepared to have your mind blown) and enjoyed. holy fuck.

Sambal sauce and cilantro!
I chop up some chicken tenders that I get at Costco (frozen).
I cook the chicken with a little EVOO, cheyenne pepper, Lawry's, and garlic & lime, lots & lots of lime.
Then, after the chicken is juuuust about done, I get the water boiling, soften the noodles, drain a little water, throw in the seasoning, mix, and then throw that into the saucepan of chicken lime mix... It's deeeellllicious and very easy. Even easier is using a George forman for the chicken, squeezing lime on it afterwards, and throwing it in the bowl of cooked Ramen.

I'm pretty sure that the powder from a top ramen packet is a negligible amount of animal or animal product... if ANY... so I think you're just being fussy for the sake of making a point... much like I am now.

you're probably right, but still... the ridiculous amounts of sodium, msg, and animal parts don't even taste that good
