View Full Version : Do you buy and wear clothes because...

...they look good (you like wearing them, you like the style) or because they have a big flashy label (Armani, Levi 511's, Burberry, Evisu)/are supposedely in fashion (polos, dress shoes, neck scarves, skinny fit jeans)?

I think a lot of people just buy things because they get caught up in the whole fashion scene. They're brainwashed into thinking these clothes look good. Look at some Evisu jeans, they look stupid. Big ol'e logos all over them.

i think the only things of mine that do have a label visible are my jeans, and i think everymake has that thing on the belt loops with the brand on them. my other stuff doesnt have logos on much, i think mainly only on the inside lining of the jacket and labels on the shirt.

i wear quite a lot of french connection stuff *not that FCUK bullshit* and the label is only ever shown on the inside of the garment.

but i tend to wear them cos they look good on me not cos of the trend, spend a fair bit of time at the gym and swimming running etc and trust me i cant get my calves into skinny jeans so thats right out of the window! never liked them anyway though.

I do have decent staples in my wardrobe like polo shirts, dress shirts etc but tend to follow most of the trends more shoe wise as ive got a few eyecatching ones along with the normal ones youd expect.

For me, all three. Generally not because things have a label on it, although I do buy good makes. I do have Evisu jeans and they are cool - the chicks dig them (they were £200). Big names in fashion won't have big labels all over them, apart from Evisu and Emporio Armani (which is the cheaper version of Armani, for the record). Everyones brainwashed, you can't just pick something up and like it or else we would all look as stupid as you. Presumably you wear a Black trenchcoat, black boots, black trousers, have long-ass hair and are paler than the moon. Even you are brainwashed into thinking something looks good. Everyone copies their peirs. Everyones a sheep, if you're not, you're not cool. If I wore things I liked to wear, I would be wearing Rolf Harris' anorak, Yellow wellington boots, Green 80's headband, Purple kilt and a orange Rab Cee Nesbitt vest. Things in fashion are generally more comfortable and are a better fit. You just have something against fashionable people wearing good clothes, let's face it Joe, you are bitter towards these people because you are not them and will never understand fashion, because that is what fashion is, the style everyone is wearing at that particular time. Now kindly fuck off out of STS you gypsy.

Regardless of what you say, big brand names are so called because they produce high quality clothing that looks good.

I'd rather buy a £40 polo shirt that will last a year and not stretch / fade / tear / fall apart than a £5 polo shirt that will be in ruins in a matter of weeks

If anything, wearing designer clothes shows you have common sense.

I tend to buy things without logo's on them.

I get prada because its very nice without logos and has a unique style, same with versace.
You get armani if you want classical pieces and corneliani for nice fitted items.

I don't wear clothes that have large brand names splayed across them. I do have some stuff with some sort of design on it. With the stuff like Amer Appar I wear, it might have no brand on it, but people know that its American Apparel when they see it. Same with the jeans I wear. People can usually tell by the fit of the jeans.

For work I've always worn a standard blue-dyed khaki-material pair of pants and button-up shirt with a white tee underneath. Simple, inexpensive, no-frills.

Then for casual wear I'm mostly blue jeans + band shirts, add a hooded sweatshirt when it's cold outside.

Brand and current fashion trends mean essentially nothing to me.

This is true. Some brands sell expensive clothes that will last forever. My grandpa boght a bunch of Grodin flannel shirts, and they still look good after 50 years. Now, shit like A&F and whatnot is just priced heavily because of the brand name.

fuck you all, I have spent about 20 dollars on clothes in the past 5 years. that includes shoes, socks, hats, gloves, EVERYTHING

I always wear nikes
I have a couple boutique quality silk shirts
most of my jeans are levis

the secret.

look around laundromats for discarded or forgotten clothes.
Pick up shit people leave at partys.
look for lost and found boxes.
find a friend who is fashion minded, take their hand me downs
when you do shop go to salvation army.

anybody who pays full price for clothes is an idiot, or just has too much cash.

The main reason I buy clothes is because I love art - And I see matching different dresses/shirts/etc together is kind of like an art form. Haha. Basically it's fun - that's the main reason I buy and wear.

It also keeps me feeling fresh. If I wear the same clothes every week, it just makes me feel so boring.

Did you ever notice how when you wear a new shirt or something, you feel good about yourself? I like to keep that feeling going week after week! :)

I love people that hate brands. It tells me instantly they're social noobs.

Case in point: Dominant body language

"Ownership

Owning something that others covet provides a status symbol. This can be territorial, such as a larger office, or displays of wealth or power, such as a Rolex watch or having many subordinates.

Just owning things is an initial symbol, but in body language it is the flaunting of these, often casually, that is the power display. Thus a senior manager will casually take out their Mont Blanc pen whilst telling their secretary to fetch the Havana cigars."

It's all about the survival of the fittest, and if anyone brings up the 'shallow' thing just think everyones shallow one way or another. If someone likes you for your personality, they're shallow, personality is defined by how a person was brought up etc.

I feel like a nigger/wigger if I wear baggy jeans. I truly love skinny jeans except the same, repetitive lame jokes every ugly faggot makes.

I buy shit because I love it and because it's cheap. But if I see an item that stands out, I'll get it regardless of price.

There are better things to spend money on. Maybe I'm lucky because with indie fashion you can go to a thrift store, buy 3 full outfits for under $50 and pick up just as many girls as you can with your expensive(faggy) shit.

If you say you can afford the expensive clothes, so why spend it on other things? Why not spend MORE on other things. Spending $1000 a month on clothes and saving $1000 a month for your holiday? Cool you can obviously afford it, but why not save $1900 and spend $100?

That was my point, even if you have thousands...even millions of dollars, there's ALWAYS something better to spend the money on than clothes.

Any one who's like "oh but they're such good materials, the quality is fantastic, the stitching amazing"...like what the fuck? I've been wearing cotton tshirts my whole life and they're basically 'not there' they're that comfortable. You don't ever think "GOD DAMN THESE MOTHER FUCKING TSHIRTS AND THEIR BAD QUALITY". Clothing has a peak in quality and after that you just pay for needless materials and name brands.

Any item that is only in fashion for a season should never cost more than $80-$100. But some items are staple items and can be worn for ever. These obviously are okay to spend a lot on. Business clothes, formal attire, leather, wool etc.

But tshirts among other things change so regularly it's crazy to spend a lot. When I used to go clubbing I knew people who had $200+ t-shirts. So what if they can afford them? Put that money away. Are they already putting money away? Put MORE away.

*edit* I saw a thing in a chicks magazine where they saw women with outfits costing $25,000+, then they'd go out and get VERY similar items and recreate the outfits for only hundreds. Point is just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's good, chances are you can get something similar or better for cheaper*

Oh I don't know what modal/viscose is, although I will google.

Um... Theres not a lot of thing better to buy than clothes. That's why you see celebritys walking around in the best clothes around. Maybe you have a different opinion, we are on Totse and all, you're probably a virgin. I can't think of anything better to buy than clothes infact... AND I still save loads of money. I'm not saying I make millions, i'm just saying my wages build up and build up, then I CHOOSE to buy GOOD brands because I know they LOOK THE BEST, and are the BEST QUALITY. End of story. My point: 2 thumbs down for your opinion on GOOD clothes.

I doubt you pick as many girls up as me... especially with CHEAP INDIE clothes, as you pointed out. Especially because i'm probably the most handsome guy on Totse. Don't get me wrong theres nothing wrong with indie clothes, there ok. Infact, I wear indie clothes, sometimes. My 2nd point: You say I have 'faggy' clothes, you don't even know what I wear. Sook my plooms, I love when people assume... It means there jealous.

Short version: You get what you pay for. If every peice of GOOD/EXPENSIVE clothing was'nt GOOD QUALITY or GOOD LOOKING, sooooo many people would'nt pay those RIDICULOUS prices for them.

They're brainwashed into thinking these clothes look good.

No fucking shit, Sherlock.
But that's the whole point of fashion; if someone THINKS you look good in something, why then you do look good to them. In essence, nothing actually "looks good".
You're just bitter because nobody likes what your style. Suck it up, trends change and tastes change, and not always the way you'd like it too.
That being said, nothing I own is as expensive as the stuff that most totseans here wear. 200 pounds (more than 300 bucks) for a pair of jeans?? wth. I'm going to school, I don't have a job right now, and I simply haven't got that kind of money to spend on clothes.

OMG! YOU ARE THE FIRST PERSON TO EVER THINK ABOUT THIS! YOU ARE SO UNIQUE LOL SO DIFFERENT NO ONE IS LIKE YOU YOU THINK SO MUCH MOAR THEN EVERYONE ELSE.

Everyone has fucking thought of this. Everyone has been in your mindset. Most people have matured and have already gotten past that stage. If you have the money to burn, why not look good and buy clothes that will last a while? If you don't have the money, or don't care about the way you look, then don't buy them. No point in trying to flex your opinion onto others you fucking homo.

Branded clothing is usually better quality that unbranded clothing because they have reputations to maintain. If I buy some cheap jeans for £10 from a supermarket and they fall apart I probably won't remember the brand and I might buy them again anyway because they're cheap. Then if I buy some expensive jeans from say Levis for £50 they have to be good quality or I'm never going to buy a pair of Levis jeans again. Because the first pair of Levis I bought were a good fit and were extremely durable I bought 2 more pairs. If they fell apart like the cheap jeans I would never have made another purchase.

I tend to wear a combination of cheaper items and more expensive. For plain ts, socks, most underwear vests and general day to day wear I'll buy cheap and often, that way although you don't get as much wear out of the clothes it's cheaper to keep up with style and change your preferences.

For the clothes I wear to go out, or formal clothes I'll spend more. Not huge amounts because I can't afford it but I'd rather buy a nice t-shirt than a computer game.

I don't buy labels, I buy clothing. I might buy multiple things from the same company if I like their style, and very importantly fit. My coat is from express, and I do like some things they come out with as well.

I have a few American Eagle T-shirts, but no huge logos. Just the logo on the sleeve typically. Most of my shirts are button ups, typically western styled that are bought from say like a thrift, resale shop, or Catholic charities. Hahaha. Yes I steal from the poor, but I don't pass up awesome shirts for 3 dollars!!1 ha.

Um Jeans, hit or miss. I MIGHT buy them resale, but it's hard to find ones I like at such. I won't buy shit BECAUSE it's vintage, has to fit my style. I have a few American Eagle, but mainly because they fit REALLY well compared to most brands. I might drop 40-50 bucks on a good pair of jeans, but I WILL NOT fucking 70-100 dollars for a pair. Jesus, my jeans never last very long, I usually do something drunkenly stupid. And I always wear a belt so no one ever sees the little logo badge thingy.
