so my hands are cold as fuck and i just had this great idea:
i got one of those dell laptops that get hot as fuck and i was thinking i could channel the heat from the vent so that the heat is directed across the keyboard and mouse pad thing.
but, i cant think of a way to do it effectivlely
the vent is on the left side close to the back and is about three inches long.
any ideas? or any ideas for an alternate way to keep my hands warm? (i cant type in gloves and i dont want to go buy anything)

You could make a little rectangular u-shaped channel out of aluminium foil and duct tape it to the case, and make the exit port wider and flatter so it spans most of the keyboard.
Though in winter I sometimes just wear socks on my hands, it's still possible to type with them on.

Are you outside? just make a duct out of cardboard and tape.

Use aluminum ducting. heck, even posterboard (poster paper) and duck tape will do the trick. Just bring the air from the vent out and around the side, venting it out over the keyboard.

I've done this actually, I just took a square cup and placed it next to the exhaust, most of the air came back towards my hands. Alternatively, you could just bring your laptop to bed with you.
