Wait you put a ≥$150 gun on layaway?
Dude how broke are you?
Seriously though I'm kinda jealous. I want one but the inflated CA prices keep me from getting one. The recoil shouldn't be too bad. Probably less than the Mosin Nagant, anyway.
sks was priced at $350, i only just put a hundred dollars down on the sks,
ill have the sks all paid off in 3 weeks, i didnt have all the money right there to buy it first
so i put it on layaway to make sure it doesnt get sold to somebody else

The recoil is like most other medium caliber rifles.
Yea its easy to clean, but most people dont even bother to remove the packing grease. Probobly because people are lazy and its not exactly an heirloom.

Its easy to disassemble, which is a good thing because it gets fucking dirty.

You could have probably got a much better deal. Though if it weren't for the fact that just so damn many of them were made and imported driving the price down so much they would be worth that much, so you only really overpaid in the sense of supply and demand making them cheaper than the workmanship would otherwise demand.
Anyway congratz none the less, nice gun. I personally really like the SKS, and for the price they can't be beat.
I've owned several SKS's before, and they are highly reliable and relatively powerful weapons. If you get some nice hollow-point ammunition for it, it will be a fearsome weapon indeed. I hear talk that it is quite easy (and cheap) to turn semi-auto SKS rifles into full-auto...but you didn't hear it from me...

Anyone who purposfully converts a weapon built from the ground up to be semi auto battle rifle or carbine into a full auto deserves the bad things that are bound to happen to them.
Don't do it. Leave it unfucked with (no stupid stocks or rediculous magazines) and it will be your best friend ever.
Nifty. I've been trying to find one but they've been hard to get around here with the Obama fears of an AWB, and when I can find one gun dealers are trying to charge me $400 or more for a fucking SKS. Not happening.
Recoil shouldn't be that bad. It fires a somewhat smaller cartridge than the Nagant.

dude forget the sks at that price. Just spend a little extra and get a 7.62x39 Saiga or other AK.

Probobly because people are lazy and its not exactly an heirloom.if you dont clean the cosmoline out you are just asking for functionality problems. if those people that you saiddont clean the grease get frequent jams and problems with the gun, that is why.

it is not that easy and it really stupid. It is designed to be semi automatic, meaning the barrel and action are not designed for that kind of sutained fire and abuse an automatic can handle. Messing with the trigger group to convert to full auto can and probably will get you a huge fine, and/or 1-10 years in federal rape your ass prison. Filing down the sear can ruin the trigger group if you don't know what your doing.
ok, i just got the sks out of lay away, i just cleaned it out of the other end of the barrel because i couldnt figure out how to get the bolt out, is there any other parts to clean out also before test firing at the range?

The gas tube and the bolt are usually clogged with cosmoline. Clean them before you try to fire it.
