There's no way I can rate them, but I'll give some honorable mentions.
Freddy Mercury for sure.
Janis Joplin's up there.
Whitney Huston too.
Simon or Garfunkle's up there too, whichever sings bridge over troubled water.
Lots more to mention, but I don't have the time to pick apart this shit. It's like asking if Clapton or Santana are the better guitarist.

He was a great, wrote some fucking awesome classics, but he was never known for his voice.
Most of his covers are better sung than the original.

i whole heartedly agree with you, bob dylan's voice sucks horribly. and although his lyrics and such were that of wonders...his voice could not compliment such beautiful words.
so thank you Rykoshet

Well... That list was semi serious but when I think about it it is still valid. Even if Bob Dylan wasn't a technically great vocalist the athenticity he lent to his songs made up for it. Listen to Like a Rolling Stone then picture it being sung by Justin Timberlake and tell me if the technically better singer does it better. It's like Lou Reed; he is a lousy singer but he actually sounds like the kinda guy who lives what he sings, but if you had the Nickleback guy singing Heroin or Waiting for the Man it would sound ridiculous.
The point is, for certain genre's of music a "great" singer, in my opinion, is the one who can sing the songs best. Pavaroti is a great opera singer and Bob Dylan is a great folky rockish singer because both sound genuine to their songs.

True, but there can be something special in its ruggedness. Not so much in Dylan's case, but Will Sheff's for sure. Old Will Sheff, none of that pussy Stage Names/Ins indie pop bullshit. That shit makes me wanna break down and start crying for having ever liked Okkervil River.
