Rich people are products of their environment. The higher taxes they [are supposed to] pay are the price of a complex social system that supports their excessive endeavors. If anyone wants to pack up and leave because of higher taxes, they can. There are millions of smart and competent people ready to fill the void for slightly less pay. The rich can't take the market with them.

I'll try again. The more wealth you accumulate, the more you can exponentially grow it with less work. Our economy is in a constant state of growth, and our money is a fiat. Put your money on the growth choo choo train(like assholes that don't really have to work because their parents money is in a hedge fund) and watch your money grow. All of these are functions created by a stable society, so taxes are the higher price you pay for that system existing in the first place. If everyone started on a blank slate and an even playing field existed where everyone who was smart and competent became wealthier than dumber and lazier people, than maybe I'd be against taxing people that work harder. The supply and demand phenomenon doesn't favor intelligence or rationality or good ethics or anything. As far as I'm aware the system is more unfair in theory to say, doctors. This notion that everyone that is rich went above and beyond and deserved the wealth they have is just pure fantasy.

It's actually a lot worse then that, because the ability of even brilliant people to function in higher education is severely limited if they don't have any financial help.
Even where it's *possible*, have fun working 20 hours a week and studying, all the while you're competing academically with wankers who have free time coming out their ears because mummy and daddy pay for their tuition along with spending money.
If you want to see the ultimate result of this as far as the quality of the work force is concerned, look no further then the one trick ponies over at wall st.
"HEY, HOUSE PRICES ARE GOING UP, IF THEY KEEP GOING UP WE CAN LOAN MONEY EVEN TO DEADSHITS AND IT'LL STILL BE OKAY!!"
Spoiled Fratboys + Billions in wealth = fucking fail.
I'd agree with the notion that the system is more unfair to those who earn high wages as a result of human capital investment, however that needs to be put in context through my previous point - how many doctors/lawyers came from humble beginnings, and how many have mummy and daddy paying their way?

And to the majority of wealthy people who actually worked hard to get where they are? What do you say to them? Oh yeah, we're going to take your hard earned money and give it to people who don't want to work and rely on the government to pay for their child support. FUCK YOU.
FUCK socialism. It doesn't work (at least not for a country that's practiced capitalism for over 200 years). The situation in Europe has proven that.

Things aren't loking all that great for the country. If something bad happens, I want to be at least prepared enough to do unto others before they do unto me.

Yeah, let's take that hard-earned money from the poorer people instead, give the rich people the money and the tax-breaks, and tell everyone it'll trickle down, no rly.
Socialism's only okay if the money's being redistributed to the rich, right?

What majority?
Utter fantasy.
Socialism isn't redistribution anyway - it's state/public ownership of the means of production.
To redistribute wealth from rich to poor necessarily requires a system where individuals can own wealth in the first place.

The majority of people don't understand that taxing the rich does nothing. They've never paid their share and they never will. Our tax system is too complex for any one person to fully comprehend. It was designed this way so that the common man can't figure it out. You think some guy making millions of dollars a year is just going to fork over hundreds of thousands of dollars without a fight? Fuck no. He's going to spend tens of thousands of dollars paying a company to shave off a big chunk of what he 'owes' the government. This is how it has always been. It's the middle class that is too 'rich' to receive any sort of government aid, yet too poor for decent health insurance, college tuition for their kids, savings for retirement, etc that always gets fucked. Every year it gets harder to make it on your own.

redistribution of power(money) =/= socialism. You're ignorant.
Also, the last time the United States was fully capitalist was decades ago, before we had 40 hour workweeks and minimum wage and social security and medicaid and income tax(which wasn't meant to tax wage-earners), in the time of robber barons and an economic wild-west that allowed a group of bankers to become so wealthy and influential that they took control of the creation of money and created the federal reserve.
I'm so sick of morons that think of the world as black and white. The US is a social democracy and only as a social democracy has the US been prosperous for the majority of its citizens. You would not want to be "working class" in the gilded age of unchecked capitalism.

Bush gave tax cuts to the rich and afforded it by raising the threshold of the alternative minimum tax, thus putting millions of upper middle class americans making 75k and up. The middle class subsidizes the rich.
The IRS audits small businesses and the middle class more often than it audits the wealthiest.
The IRS is villified. The marketing campaign against the IRS was headed by Frank Luntz, infamous neocon maketing genius, and turned the public against these agents with bulletproof vests and guns(ignoring the fact that this was the new protective measures since IRS agents had often been shot at.)
rich ceos use a system of payment deferrals to avoid taxes on multi-million dollar payments. You can use a charity scheme to legally pay as low as 6%(one of these was offered to bill gates, and it's unknown whether he took advantage of it.).
ronald reagan, whom republifags worship because he doesn't suck as much as bush, lowered taxes for the rich, increased government spending, then raised excise taxes(like the fuel tax) and increased social security taxes(which democrats passed) to pay not for social security, but for government functions that lacked money as a result of reagans' tax cuts. Also, the fact that people makong 80k plus get a bigger tax break on social security up to the point that the richest pay less than 1% in social security means that again, the poor and middle subisize the rich.
Whatever. just because it continues to happen doesn't mean we shouldn't do anything about it. class struggle is more prevalent than people think. Heavy marketing clouds peoples' judgments, and democrats and republicans alike both continue to bullshit the people into subsidizing the rich. and no, ron paul tard and flat taxation is not the answer.

My grandfather said it best: garbage in garbage out. Ever since I was a little kid he told me not to trust the papers, the news, and TV in general. Now that I'm older I realize they are trying to sell me something. Smart investments, saving your money, and spending those extra hours you have every day learning how to do things yourself will add up in the end. In general the best advice I can give anyone now is to stop putting your faith in your government and start putting it in yourself. This is a trait that all the greats have in common. Independence.
What can you do to make your life better? Learning how to cook a little so you don't spend as much eating out? I prefer my cooking to most restaurants anyways. Can you live in a smaller, cheaper home? Do you really need a fast/luxury car? Do you need to buy new, name brand clothes every month? I've always believed that no investment is greater than your own home. Really think about where you stand when shit hits the fan. Do you want to be the guy who loses his job and still has 20 years of payments left on his house? Do you want to be the guy that had it all planned out 5 years ago but can't seem to make ends meet now because of inflation, taxes, interest, etc? Do what you can to own your own home and a reliable vehicle as soon as possible, stockpile can goods while you can, and learn how to take care of yourself and your investments.
If you don't think this is sound advice then you better find a good guide on how to survive while homeless and hungry. You never know when that could come in handy.

I was being half sarcastic, hence the rolly eyes thing but, yes you do make a really good point there, However some people really did go above and beyond and pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and someother cliche saying to reach sucess, but your right about the trustfund babies and such and how the majority of rich people are bitchmade so therefore i do agree that their weath should be pu to better uses I.E. Yes you can put it that way. So what?
Greed is good remember?
Anyway...
I'll do fine, Bachelor of Finance, Bachelor of Economics double degree once I (eventually) graduate. I live in a country where student debt is only indexed to inflation - no real interest.
(Plus I can just go overseas once I graduate... haw haw)
Just because I *get* the system doesn't mean I can't get by in it.
I'm willing to bet that you didn't win the genetic lottery either though - why defend a system that doesn't benefit you?
Emotion attachment to ideas? simply don't understand it?
Don't get me wrong, I've read more of the right wing ideological stuff then the average person...
In particular Ayn Rand is amusing - as much as a joke philosopher as she is she does manage to relatively simply kill a lot of false gods, she just missed the last few.
Max Stirner on the other hand...

With my vote for Obama, I have given him four years to meet my demands, as follows:
Free health care
Lower national debt
If one of these, or both, are not met, I will not be sending Obama in for a second term.
