I need help with finding something i can whip up quick that will keep me awake for possibly 24 hours.

Foods containing the amino acid tyramine, commonly found in bacon, ham, sausage, cheese, aubergines, tomatoes, red wine, peppers, smoked meats, fish and, unfortunately, chocolate - can all keep you awake at night.

I'm not sure about the reliability of this information, but it's what I came up with from some quick research; it also says that they cause high blood pressure.

Great because i am planning for a like 3 day no sleep thing, you know just for the fuck of it. Is there any other like drink recipes say you know of that keep you up for a while (excluding coffee)

The tryptophan in those will put you right out though. Tyramine is good because it decarboxylates (after hydroxylation) to dopamine, but you need much more than a few strips of bacon to get something real going. Check out JP's phenylalanine thread.

In Penn and Teller's Bullshit episode on the sleep insomnia industry, they said it's a big misconception that tryptophan makes us sleepy. You'd have to eat like an unreasonable amount of the stuff for it to have an effect.

Tell that to yourself next time you have a turkey and a high carb meal. Or when you actually take tryptophan in pills; it's a direct precursor to melatonin, there's no way that if you ate a high carb meal (to flood your brain with tryptophan) lacking other aromatic amino acids and took a gram of tryptophan you would not be nodding off. Penn and Teller don't factor in many things into their shows and they're certainly not biochemists.

chocolate coverd coffee beans.

what you will need: coffee beans, whole. dark chocholate. pinch of salt. tbsp butter. tbsp cayenne powder.

in a double boiler melt your chocolate then add your salt butter an caynee powder. after it has all melted using a sloted spoon dip some beans into the still warm chocolate. try to cover as much of the beans as possible. then let them cool on wax paper. it wil take awhile to get this down so jus be patient.


but in this treat you will have caffine from coffee an chocolate as well as a bit of a kick from the cayenne.

Turkey does contain L-tryptophan, an essential amino acid with a documented sleep inducing effect. L-tryptophan is used in the body to produce the B-vitamin, niacin. Tryptophan also can be metabolized into serotonin and melatonin, neurotransmitters that exert a calming effect and regulates sleep. However, L-tryptophan needs to be taken on an empty stomach and without any other amino acids or protein in order to make you drowsy. There's lots of protein in a serving of turkey and it's probably not the only food on the table.

It's worth noting that other foods contain as much or more tryptophan than turkey (0.333 g of tryptophan per 100 gram edible portion), including chicken (0.292 g of tryptophan per 100 gram edible portion), pork, and cheese. As with turkey, other amino acids are present in these foods besides tryptophan, so they don't make you sleepy.

Gross. What kind of fool wants that kind of knowledge?! Such boredom is best left to people with a passion for it. Biochemistry is almost as interesting to me as the technical information on how my laptop works.

Or with a high carb meal low in amino acids so that you can flush the branched chain AAs into your cells rather than into the brain. SAME THING. Your reference never said anything about carbs, only AAs. A high carb meal will achieve the same effects as a protein fast (provided you didn't eat any aromatic amino acids).

Fair play mate. I'm no stranger to being up a long while even though I have never really gone as far as a few days. 56 hours is my record and the worst part is it was sort of unintentional. I've done an odd 40 something hours here and there when i was younger. It's tough though, stimulants or no stimulants.

You just get periods of absolutely being fucked and dead to the world and then bits where you feel madly awake and full of energy. It cycles like that continuously until you give up.
