I checked a couple vids on youtube and played it at game stores a couple times, and it seems like most or all of the games are just easy puzzle type games. There's not much fighting, strategy, or skill... just solving puzzles mostly. And it's alot easier too. Like in zelda, you just have to tap the pen on a enemy twice to kill him, instead of having to turn around, get the right angle, get a good distance, ect. Are there any games on there for the older audience or is the whole system really just crappy?

Advance Wars : Days of Ruin was pretty decent, and offered more challenge than most DS games.
Can't go wrong with Castlevania. Good, sometimes gory, 2d scroller. Always lots of fun.
What kind of games to you typically like? That might give me a better scope of things I could recommend.
No, stormy and my play with ours

Mostly adventure games like Legend of zelda on n64 and GC, super mario bros series, metal gear, 007, megaman, resident evil, ect.
I'm looking for something where the pen is used rarely. It just seems to take alot of the fun out of it.
Alot of the games usually give you the option to use the pen. I find it can get annoying and in the way of the game.
The first Castlevania was good. The portrait of Ruin is like.. impossible.. and the third one I haven't played.
Oh and freakin chrono trigger..
Mario Kart DS
The NEW super mario game kinda sucked.

nintendo is trying waaaaaaay to hard to bring reality into video games. and thats what makes it fail. Like both the DS and Wii have so much fucking potential. nintendo is like rich guy with no idea what to spend his money on
I always thought a Resident Evil 4 port would work on the DS. Use the Dpad to move around, hold R to bring up the pistol and use the Dpad to aim just like the Gamecube version. Then, during mercenaries mode and using the rifle,to zoom in with the scope you'd hold the R button and say into the mic "zoom!" and it would zoom in. L trigger would bring up the knife, etc. Just scale the game back. I mean, the DS is a perfectly capable hand held if you scaled it back correctly.
Guess it's always been a distant dream of mine.

the DS actually has some adult oriented games, but they are all crappy
examples include: ninja gaiden, splinter cell, and metroid prime hunters

ninja gaiden on ds is fucking awesome.
FUCKING AWESOME!!1! :mad::mad::mad:

I played my nephew's one for about 5 minutes and I gotta say, I'm not impressed. Then again I've never really been a Nintendo fan.
I will stick with my PSP.

you know, im actually suprised nintendo hasnt added a port or any game similar to super smash bros for the DS. seriously, they ported and improved mario kart really well, and integrated online play with it. im sure they can do it with SSB.

The closest thing you'll find to SSB with online play is Jump Ultimate Stars. Japanese release only, but there's a patch out there for converting a rom to engrish. Pretty much the same type of gameplay, knock your opponent out of the ring, but the characters are mixed from various Jump Shonen anime licenses.
Sadly the ds is kinda lacking in good fighters. The best ones I can think of are this port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat and a couple of Bleach games.

In my opinion, it is. I regret buying one. I was only really interested in the mario and luigi rpg and zelda. And that zelda was a HUGE disappointment. It's the most dumbed down zelda ever made and at one point I was wondering if the creators of zelda actually made the game or if some other shitty developers made it. On the other hand, that prof. layton game is surprisingly really good, and quite challenging at times. But almost everything else is a joke. I just can't respect a company that allows a game like Homie Rollerz to be released. Jesus Christ what a god awful game. There are hundreds of crap games that nintendo keeps shitting out. I just gave my ds to my little sister. I'll stick with my 360.
And why the fuck don't they bring back a 2d metroid? God damnit.

QUOTED FOR MOTHERFUCKING TRUTH.
THAT'S what I want. A 2d Metroid. If one ever came out, I would shit my pants.
Metroid Fusion for the SP was really slick, colorful and a big fucking load of fun to play.
If they made one for the DS, not only would the graphics and sprites look cleaner and smoother - but the whole game would most likely kick ass as well.
Ahh.....I miss Metroid.

rly. ok, yeah, so the ds has several tons of shit titles. i won't deny that.
but it's still got lots of awesome games.
wait... really????
Haha yeah, that was the same thing I said when I found this at my work. Not only would I this game probably not work, but I doubt anyone looking to quit smoking would even think of this game or want to use it.
Looks real effective.

I think the DS would win for most amount of shit titles compared to actual good ones. Seriously, when I'm at work, and walk down the DS isle to put something away, it amazes me at the amount of shit games there are. Some little kid was begging me to find him a copy of "Club Penguin: Elite Force", that sounds really fucking gay. I'm going to judge this one by it's cover and just say gay. It would probably take every active GPP poster using their fingers and toes, to count how many of the DS games are based off of kids movies and shows.
Fuck that noise, I would never buy a DS. Sure there might be some good games, but when the ratio of good games to bad games is 1:100, no fucking thanks. And out of the box, the PSP is so much more advanced that the DS, touch screen can such my balls. I'm not going to comment on either one's homebrew capability. While I know each is able to, I don't know which is better because I don't do the whole homebrew thing.

I hear you on that - games based on movies and shows are fucking retarded.
But - disliking a system because it has more shit games than good games is kinda skewered.
That's like not going into a restaurant because they serve more shitty food than good food.
Well - you ain't there to order the shit you don't like - are you? Didn't think so.
So - when you buy a DS.....who exactly is forcing you to play/buy the shitty games?
No one. I have a DS - and I only buy a title unless I'm sure I'm going to like it - and so far - it's kept me busy quite a while.

Your analogy doesn't make sense. I understand the underlying meaning with what you said, but a restaurant with little to no quality control is a shitty restaurant no matter which way you look at it, so by extension, a game console with little to no quality control is a shitty console.

What I meant was - assume this.
You love pasta - but hate burgers.
There's this place down the street that serves terrible burgers, but really good pasta.
You don't go there, because you hate burgers.
It's ridiculous to condemn an entire system/establishment because there are things you don't like about it.
No one said you had to like them - get the things you DO like out of it.
It's not that the analogy doesn't make sense, his/her logic doesn't.
EDIT : I'm not trying to argue - we all have our opinions and each system has it's strengths and weakness - I just think that the reason he stated is a lousy reason to dislike a WHOLE system - but hey, to each his own.
EDIT #2 : Besides - doesn't EVERY system have completely shitbird titles?

Yar, that is a pretty good analogy, Midge.
From what I've seen of the PSP's titles, there's only a handful of games that I would consider playing and most of those are mainly remakes of old PS1 games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Suikoden 1 & 2, and Riviera: the Promised Land.
The PSP has never released enough original titles for me to even think about buying one. The only game I can think of off the top of my head is Final Fantasy 7...Crisis Core? Heh, also Final Fantasy Dissidia looks like it's gonna kick ass.
Personally, I use my DS more than I do my computer or my consoles for gaming but, then again, I'm hardly ever home to sit down in front of them anymore.
Meh...all this arguing is kinda moot though. Play what you like and just leave everybody else alone. :p

WERE YOU BEING SARCASTIC ABOUT MY ANALOGY? English isn't my first language, but I've been around it enough that I should AT LEAST expect myself to explain things semi-intelligible.
Meh...all this arguing is kinda moot though. Play what you like and just leave everybody else alone. :p
Amen.
I guess I'm particularly fond of the DS because A) My computer cost 250 dollars 8 years ago.
(Yes. That's right. It's an 8 year old computer. No, I do not - and CAN NOT - play games on it. I'm a poor motherfucker. All I use it for is the internet/writing.)
Anyways, I dig on the DS because I can take it anywhere, the games are budget friendly, and whenever I'm on break at work, I can sit in my car, have a cigarette and just play a casual puzzle game without having to think too much into it.
To each his own - as long as you're enjoying yourself.

Np, it's still a horrible analogy. You can't compare a restaurant with a gaming console, be it hand held or not. When I go to a restaurant I don't pay for my seat, I pay for food, and then a couple bucks for service. When I want to play a good video game I have to first buy then console, and then buy the video game. So if there are only 5 good games, in my opinion, I'm not going to buy a shitty console just to play them.
I also listed other things that I didn't like about the DS, so there goes your statement about my logic not making sense.

Youch. Is there a reason for you being so harsh?
I hope you realize that I wasn't saying you had no reason to dislike the DS (I mean...you did see me clearly state 'to each his own, as long as you're having fun'....right?)
I just meant that the single reason (I realize you listed others, I'm not talking about those, I'm talking about just this reason) of not liking a system because of it's crappy games to good games ratio was kind of a stretch.
Everything else is justified, I'm just saying that reason IN PARTICULAR is ridiculous.

I'm just saying that when someone says your analogy was bad, and then you can't realize it and then blame it on my logic, that's pretty idiotic. You can't take that one piece of my argument out of context and try to prove me wrong. After debunking your analogy my argument and logic makes even more sense. I'm harsh because you don't understand.
EDIT :I just think that the reason he stated is a lousy reason to dislike a WHOLE system - but hey, to each his own.
You are a walking, talking, paradox. That isn't my ONLY reason for not like a WHOLE system. First you say this then you say something else. Get your shit straight son.
EDIT #2 : Besides - doesn't EVERY system have completely shitbird titles?
This is a Red Herring. We aren't talking about every other system, this thread is about the DS and if it is for Children or not. I may have talked about the PSP, but only to state what made the DS childish and or/shitty. Don't try to change the subject.

Sad. I went out of my way to state that your reasons for disliking the system were legit.......just NOT THAT ONE REASON IN PARTICULAR. I mean - how many more ways can I say it?
But apparently, you misunderstood me just as much as I misunderstood you. It's just unfair to tell the OP - someone who's wondering if a DS is for kids or not, that the ratio of good games to shit games is 1:1000.
THAT'S ALL. But, since you didn't get it the first 3 times I said it, let's try a fourth.
Your REASONING for disliking the DS IS PERFECTLY LEGIT! But, saying that the ratio of good games to shit games is 1:1000, is in no way a good reason to dislike a system.
THAT'S SAYING NOTHING ABOUT YOUR OTHER REASONS LISTED - THEY'RE FINE! I UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU'RE COMING FROM.
I'm just talking about THAT REASON IN PARTICULAR. It's ridiculous.
I mean - this is for the OP's sake. The reasons you listed are just fine - and those are some things he BETTER take into consideration for maybe not liking the DS, but that whole 1:1000 ration just isn't a good reason, that's all.
EDIT : ENGLISH is not my first language! I try to make sure the sentences are coherent when they're in my head, but sometimes, when I put them down in writing - it comes out a little backwards - I may appear to be stupid, but it's only because I still have trouble with this goddamn language to this day.

Sorry, I'm very biased when it comes to the DS. I'm nuts about it.
I bought one, this one time, took it home and threw it against the ground. I picked up the broken pieces, and put them in a blender. Once it was a fine powder like consistency, I melted it down, loaded it into a syringe and shot it into my arm.
That's how much I love the DS.

And to Midge, I know you said that, but you pretty much said the complete opposite of that in a previous post. Don't blame this on your inability to speak a language either, you know very well what I was saying, and I you. I didn't misunderstand shit.

I'm blaming my inability to speech english on the fact that I DIDN'T explain clearly what I meant in my first post (which is where this argument came from).

Buying a DS is only worth it if you pirate all the good games. Mean wtf, why do some of them cost 35-40 bucks?!?! That's insane. Luckily people are able to crack the 'protected' ones easily, ie Chrono Trigger.
I still have a phat... I want a lite but I'm poor :(

Sadly, that's pretty much what I do lately. Chrono Trigger? Just downloaded it a few days ago.
I havn't bought any DS games at all since I got my M3 Real. At first I told myself that if I liked the games then I'd buy them. I've liked a lot of games that have gone on and off my Micro SD card, but I havn't paid for a single one.
I'd have to say that I only feel just a slight bit guilty for pirating Nintendo games...
Mean wtf, why do some of them cost 35-40 bucks?!?! That's insane.
All the more reason to buy a used game/pirate your games.
One of the main reasons why I bought a DS - if you pirate your games, or get them used, it's actually pretty damn cheap.
