I currently have a 20 inch audiovox lcd flat screen. It can go up to 1080i which is pretty good for its size but it makes it wider because its not a widescreen. I have a ps3 and 360 (with the HDMI Port) so I was thinking for christmas to ask for a new TV that is substantially bigger than 20 inches.
The TV I have now is really good. Ive had it for about 3 years now, and its pretty much in mint condition except for the fact that my sister dropped it and now theres like a bubble sort of thing but its really no big deal, just sort of disappears after not paying attention. But its good and its just small for gaming. Like I feel Im not getting the best out of my gaming.
Ive played on my cousins 42inch but not in hdmi, and it kicked ass. I was thinking that upgrading my TV to about the same size or bigger would help. The TV Im looking at is this one ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00140U136/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=AHF4SYKP09WBH&v=glance ) It has good reviews and Ive looked at other sites and its gotten good reviews. But from the info given and from personal experience do you think that it would be a good tv for gaming? What size do you play on and hows it working out for you? And any other suggestions on TVs (Preferably same size/price range)
kthx
EDIT: Put this in here because I wasnt sure where to ask, and since it had to go with gaming thats why. Mods please move if you feel the need to

Just found that on best buy and its about $900. All reviews are saying its great. But what are some of the things that may be helpful to look at for gaming? What do you guys think?
I have a 38 inch SDTV.
Does the job for me.

I have a 37 inch Panasonic Plasma HDTV. In American standards it's not big, size wise, but considering the fact that I sit pretty close to it, 37 inch is more than big enough for me.
If you have a PS3 or 360, an HDTV with HDMI is a must. In terms of size, bigger isn't necessarily better. Make sure to take your viewing distance in account when buying a new tv.

Its either going to be a 42Inch or a 46. I have the viewing distance pretty good since I can move around my room now that i just rearranged it a bit. But it really depends on the prices. Hopefully I can convince my dad to take me to a best buy, walmart or sears this weekend to take a look at some tvs because they have some really good prices. And It would be easier to take it from the store to home and dont gotta wait/pay for shipping =].
I just have to go and check em out. But keep feeding some more info on your tvs and your review on them.

Buy a plasma. Panasonic or Pioneer. If you have the money, go for the 50 inch Pioneer.
LCDs are utter shit for gaming. LCDs kick ass in the area of spreadsheets and diagrams, but once things start moving, they start sucking up real hard in comparison to plasma.

I have a 42" plasma and a 32" plasma that I play games on. The 42" has my elite 360 ran on hdmi and the 32 has my halo 3 edition ran normally on hd. I guess it depends on what type of games you are talking about playing. RPG's and non shooters I would say play on as big of a tv as you can. Games like halo 3 I think I did much better on a 20" tv then I do now. Both of my tv's are Vizio brand which has very good prices i paid 900 and 600 I think for my tvs (respectively)

I have a 26" LCD HDTV in my room that I sit about a metre away from. The Playstation looks pretty good and I have no complaints. Though maybe my eyes are suffering; what's the optimal distance?
When I put it on our 42" Plasma downstairs with the surround sound (optical connection from the PS3), it looked and sounded far, FAR better. Everything was cleaner, vibrant and the sound was beautiful.
So from experience, bigger is most certainly better. Plasma is kind of cool and apparently produces a better quality picture when dealing with darker area's. However seen as you're going to be playing games alot and when you're playing games there are alot of stationary images (HUD's, think the health bar on GTA) that might cause screen burn, you might want to consider LCD. You don't want to change channel and suddenly see that the news reader has 20% health, full armour and 30 bullets left in his M4.
I think it's less of a problem now though, our TV downstairs has some sort of screen burn protection (Scattering pixels or some other shit).

Most new TV's all have screen burn protection. Vizio is guaranteed to never have a screen burn in and the bulbs in it last for like 10 years or something like that.

i think im just gonna be better off with a 37 inch. wont have to deal with my parents bitching about size, and i played on both my 37 inch lcd and plasma at 480i and this is an older LCD and Plasma from from when they first came out. So i would probably end up with the 37 just because of price and its more moveable because i need to turn my tv sometimes.
My friend plays on a 32inch lcd and it kicks ass on HDMI. And I plan on getting a PS3 soon so yeah. Just for price reasons and limited space i think the 37 would be better. Specifically this one...

My cousin has an LG and it has a realllllllly good picture. That TV has pretty damn good reviews as well.
I have a 40" LCD Samsung and i've never looked back, it was a $900 tv (after taxes) at Best Buy and looks better than my friends sony who paid about 4000 for his....
Also, plasma runs the risk of burn in so I wouldn't suggest it for gaming.
No television manufacturer can guarantee that your plasma will never burn in.

May be a rumor but I've heard that unless you're getting a TV over 50", you won't notice a difference between 780 and 1080

I can't see the difference.

Anything over 50" isn't really needed anyways (gaming wise). My buddy had a beauty 42" Sharp plasma which a) looked nice
b) great contrast/sharpness
c) could still jam split screen warhawk without it looking stupid.

I play on a 42 inch plasma vizio and sit about 6 feet away. Its good I guess. I haven't played it in about 3 months.

probably gonna go with a 42 or a 37. If the 42s price is reasonable like 100-150 over the price of the 37 then yeah, any where above that isnt gonna work

My friend has a 40 something inch Sony LCD, from the 'X' range, and that looks great when he's playing the 360. Before that he more or less had the same TV, but it could only manage 1080i, so he went and got his current one for about £2000 just because he wanted 1080p. Seemed like a big waste of money to me. I couldn't tell the difference between the two.
Any way, he swears by Sony, so have a look at their latest range. He also swears by LCD over plasma.

But yeah, I didn't see the point it was a big waste of money. What's even worse is he just gave his other TV away.

50 inch hlr 5064 reporting in. everything looks good on it, as it should be "3600 dead end of august 05"
Love playing pc games on it.
I would say "if you can" go for a rear projection crt DLP samsung model.
Still the best bang for your buck, performance, time span, image quality, etc etc.
Edit, don't bother asking how many cold cuts i had to slice to get that bitch...

50" Plasma. It's a 720p, but it's like my theory on digital cameras. Unless you're a professional photographer, you really don't need anything over 3mp.
I found a great deal on this one as well. Under 1k. I'm happy with it.

I do 720p at 100". Works out well. I'll move to 1080p when they get cheaper or when the bulb blows in this thing.
And yeah, having too large a TV can actually make some games more difficult. I get better scores in Geometry Wars on a smaller screen. I don't care. I won't give it up.
If you're looking for a more reasonable size, the 42" plasma will probably give you the best bang for your buck. Go 50" if you want. LCD is great if you must have things ultrasharp, or if you're planning to ever plug a PC in. Plasma delivers a much more cinematic feel and much, much better contrast.
Or wait for OLED. Whatever.

I'm pretty much in this boat (except my 37" Panasonic is an LCD.) I'm too cheap to get a HDMI cable for my 360 and as such I only use composite, but it certainly does the job quite well. In fact, the screen is a little too big (32" is perfect for the end of your bed.)
