Good British rap? Sure. That doesn't sound goofy? That's a taller order.

What, you think people can really have black skin?
Who would be so harsh as to do that to someone?

I have to be honest like, even though I'm british...British rap is shit.

The only decent two rappers from britain I've came across are Sway and Plan B.

The rest are just retarded wannabes jumping on the brit-rap bandwagon.

I used to listen to some underground British rap that was really good. If I can find it I'll post some, but that was years ago and I dunno if it's still on my PC.

The streets is wack, wiley is wacker. Some of the london rappers have skills, but I just can't feel them cos they try too hard to be gangster. Try some dirty raver k-head flows, I like this much better even though this guy isn't even famous. :p

The Streets are probably the best.

Everything I've heard by them has been utter shit. That song Fit But You Know It is one of the fucking gayest, stupidest and lamest attempts at rap I've ever heard all rolled into one stupid fucking song.

It's not really rap, more garage / hip-hop; while that might imply the use of rapping, it does not advocate it.

Have a listen to these;
Blinded by the Light (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4A8T4lVu074).
Weak Become Heroes (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0Z1kRhiPE0E).
Let's Push Things Forward (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8UGtlUMMkOU).
Everything is Borrowed (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=j8BHL5SWX0Q).

I thought all of those were really terrible. I can't stand the british style of rap production (I think it's called "grime").
And if they aren't really rap then why were they brought up in a thread about "british rap"? But I consider rap and hip hop to be the same thing, just like techno/dance/house/trance usually gets called just techno by me.

No, I just can't be fucked going into all the subgenre shit. Except with the techno and what not, I don't like the majority of what I've heard and don't really care about going into the subgenres and shit.

But techno and house arn't subgenres, they are literally two different types of music.
It's like saying jungle and drum and bass is the same

And you think I care about music I don't like because...? Aphex Twin and maybe a few Fatboy Slim songs aside, there is very little electronic dance music that appeals to me at all. I find most of it to be incredibly boring and extremely annoying.

Personally, I think people should take the whole musical genre thing with a pinch of salt. I mean you can't just put music into categorically labelled boxes.

It's very rare you find a song characteristic of only one 'genre'. Music is about expression as far as I am concerned so I think generally, the genre doesn't matter that much. In fact the only time it's really that important to me is when I'm in a music shop so I know where to look:rolleyes:

Like I said, it's just my own point of view. When I think about it, classifying music so rigorously sort of negatively overshadows what the music is really about.

A good example of why genre is mostly irrelevant, still on the subject of british rap, would be Plan B. His music, whether you like it or not, is very diverse. How many well-known artists percieved as rappers do you know play guitar as well as rap in their songs for example? Well worth checking out this guy.

YouTube him...Plan B

99.9% of grime music is absolute bullshit, UK hip hop can be fucking great though
Sway is alright, still cant believe Akon signed him. Plan B is pretty good too.

Plan B fucking blows. I don't get why he's such a bigshot in the British scene. It might be weak as nuts over there, but I know you guys have better stuff than Plan B.

Also, Roots Manuva is pretty good. Jamie T is interesting to listen to, and I enjoy his stuff a little bit when it comes on the radio but it's not all that Hip hop, so I guess it can't really be counted. It's just contemporary stuff. That's what I rekon anyway.

By the way, most of the rappers from the UK that are even halfway decent are females.

I can't be bothered to read all of the previous posts, but Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip is worth checking out. It's like spoken-word electro-hip-hop, and it actually works.

I suggest..

Walex (http://www.myspace.com/mrwalex).

Fairly unknown, mostly just known around Birmingham; he's only been about for a few years but there's a CD coming out sometime soon.
I reckon he's proper hellish.
