View Full Version : LOTR: Total War
Total conversion mod for Rome: Total War Alexander expansion.
So far, it's a very impressive mod. It's still in it's early stages (beta) despite being called "Version 2.04"
The campaign mode is excellent, with an accurate campaign map of Middle-Earth, particularly focusing on the movies. There's a wide selection of armies to play as -- Everything from Gondor to Mordor. Rohan, Elves (multiple factions), Sarumon's Army of Isengard, Orc Hordes, Easterlings and Southerons. Pretty much every army from the movies you can think of, and more. The unit models are excellent, and look almost identical to how they looked in the movies -- especially with graphics on high.
They're also currently working on city models of Helm's Deep and Minas Tirith. They've already got Minas Tirith in the works and are pretty much fixing bugs with the unit movement paths.
Definitely a mod to keep your eyes on. Like I said, it's still pretty new so it still needs some ironing, but so far it's a very well made mod.

Isn't there already a LOTR RTS? I really don't understand these mod teams who insist on creating a mod that's the exact same thing as a contemporary game on the market. What is the fucking point?

Because every RTS is exactly the same, save models?

Pretty much.
I'd have to disagree with you there. I find the total war set-up to be the best. But it really only works well for pre-gunpowder armies

I'm pretty biased, it's my least favorite genre by a longshot.
I'd rather play a Racing Sim, and I fucking hate those.

I suck at RTS games but, just hearing this is rather cool. To bad it won't moticate me to buy/pirate the game though
Any screens, I'd like to see what this looks like.

Dude, thats fucking boss.
I've been playing just the regular rome total war campaign recently, and was thinking about trying a cool mod. I was just wondering, how easy is it to go back to the regular game once you've added on the mod?
I wanna check out the total realism mod. I think they should make a mod that's the opposite of the total realism mod, and theres a whole bunch of mythical ass units. Instead of the senate giving you missions, you have to do the bidding of the gods and shit. That would be badass.
But, in all honesty, I'm only playing rome because my dick gets hard every time I think of empire total war. It combines my two favorite things, history, and epic historical battle movies.

This mod is the greatest thing ever to be posted on Games People Play.

Do you mean as far as game skill goes? If so, it's pretty much the same aside from the units (obviously). If you mean selecting games, it's not hard at all. There's a separate .exe file for the mod.
Don't forget to pick up the music pack on the site!

Speaking of rome total war, I just started a campaign with the germanic tribes, and I can't believe I never played as these guys. They have the berserkergang, the most powerful infantry unit in the game. Once they get near the enemy, they just start screaming and go berserk, and you have absolutely no control. But, on the plus side, they hack through formations, and instead of just the guy dropping when they kill a guy, the berserkers literally throw guys all over the place, like elephants do.
So badass.
Those are the guys with the bear fur things on their heads/backs right? And the hammer/axe deals? Yeah they kick ass.
As far as throwing people around, Sauron is the same way. He fucks people up pretty much exactly as he does in the beginning of LOTR:FotR. It takes several full melee units to take him out. Having a ton of archers is your best bet, since they can skirmish faster than he moves.
The cave/battle trolls do the same, but not as extreme as Sauron. They're fucking vicious too and just a few of them are going to wipe out a good deal of your army.
