View Full Version : I have made an important decision.

I'm going to give up firearms.

Call me a heretic, idiot, or whatever. I already know the risks associated with disarming myself.

I already know that I'd rather have a gun than a phone in a home invasion situation.

This doesn't mean I'm throwing my weapons away. I would like to ask W&C about storing weapons and what precautions should be taken.

Thanks in advance and for the informative threads,

TLM

If you store your oiled weapons with dessicant in a sealed plastic wrap (or silicon-impregnated sleeve), perhaps in PVC pipe, or just in a dessicated, possibly heated safe, you might be okay.

What kind of storage (safe or otherwise), and how long term?

Also, are you going to keep voting/donating/advocating firearms usage? Where do you live (US)?

May I ask why?

Okay, what if I got exotic and pulled a vacuum inside the PVC tube?

They won't be in a safe. I don't really have a "safe" place to keep them.

Long term could range from 6 months to 6 years. I only plan to use my weapons in an emergency ( me killing a deer earlier this year so I could eat, etc.).

I am, but as always I never force my views on anyone else. Don't worry Random_Looney, I'm not going to be a gun grabber, I might go undercover so I can post my findings to W&C if anyone is interested in that sort of information.

I live in TN.

As for why reggie_love, I think I can improve myself without firearms around. They usually become a quick outlet, and maybe I'll learn something.

I may be kind of on the same page with OP. I find I don't carry nearly as often as I used to. Last time I was armed, I was working in the rental office by myself at night--this is only prudent. And I still keep my .38 special within reach by my bed.

But do I really need to carry my Beretta when I am just going to the library?

^ Do they even allow you with a loaded firearm in a public library?

Well see you just proved that you should not be storing your guns. If you store the guns aways its not a matter if what IF the commie bastards come its a matter of WHEN they come to rape you with their damn commie ways.

All I have to say is at least your not stupid enough to completly de-arm yourself.

Alaska has very liberal concealed carry laws. Assuming you are not a CONVICTED felon (I got away will all of mine), you can carry concealed w/o a permit, EXCEPT for in bars, banks, POs, courthouses, and within the city limits of Anchorage.

As long as it has a suppressor, it should be fine. :p

Go to a shoe shop, like Foot Locker or something, ask nicely for the silica gel packs that come in shoe boxes, if they have any laying around. Say you are drying out some flowers for an art project.

Go buy some plastic pipe. PVC can work, make sure it is completely weather proof, ergo rated for water pipes. Get them threaded, both ends, and buy caps. Get some thread sealing tape. It's not adhesive as such, it's like a really soft plastic thingo that you wrap around the threads, so when you screw the caps on it is better than air tight.

You don't even need to grease the gun. Oil it, fairly heavily, wrap in clean cotton rags. Throw some silica gel packs in there. Screw the caps on.

Get shovel.

Go dig hole in the bush.

Bury guns.

Mark tree base, or climb and mark high, of a nearby tree, with a tomahawk, so you remember where guns are buried. Do not make the markings too obvious.

When you need to find guns, come back with a wire coathanger. Poke around in the dirt (wait till it has rained, then been dry for a day, so the ground is soft), till you feel the plastic. Then you know where to start digging.

However, some condensation can occur inside the tubes, leading to dampness and rust. So I would suggest some grease anyways, and, if possible, vacuum sealing the tubes as well.
Just to make triple sure.
