How do I get funds or a secured personal loan for a used car from a private seller where the car is from the '65 to '75 range and is asking about $3,000AU?

working?
i'm sure to get a loan from a bank you'd probably need a job. about 99.9% sure. unless a parent cosigns. or adult with good credit. then you got to pay them. (i figure you're a teenager due to not being able to know how to get $3k)

You want a cheap used car yet you're getting ready to buy a classic? Not many cars in Australia between the years '65 and '75 that go cheap mate. $3000 might get you a few good cars, but not very far if you want them to be driveable let alone registerable. Best you'll do for a licenced car without being in too rough of a condition between those years will be something commonly unpopular. Might want to consider 80's and 90's Japanese and domestic (Falcons, Commodores) rides if cheap and driveable is what you're after, unless you're a Valiant fan and don't getting balls deep in a CM Valiant base model with light rust around the gaurds.
$3000 will get you a pretty decent (as far as Falcons go) 80's Falcon with a V8 and possibly change too. 351 5 speed XE anybody? Why not get an super-fail EB? The XR6 goes hard, especially with the right plumbing. They love snails. You could get any 308 Commodore you like, and in good condition. Even the Vacationer models are beginning to become collectable. Don't touch a VL 304 unless you're willing to overhaul the POS emissions equiptment infested engine. EF and EL Falcons are nice cruisers, pretty large cars. Thirsty, but get a passable level of respect and are ultra reliable - large contrast to the earlier models of the 5th generation which suck balls completely. VN - VS Commodores are a dime for a dozen, 'nuff said.

smart arse how'd you know? yeah that's what i'm planning to get. i have a job but the pay is shit all and i can't afford to save 3k within months especially with cigarettes and i ain't quitting them.
i'm thinking about resorting to illegal funds but i won't talk about that here cus it's the wrong subforum.
edit: just wanted to add i'm on my p's cant have a v8 hence why i'm looking at slant-six valiants
also edit: i can get a registerable VS for 2k but regardless i'd still need a way to get the funds for it as soon as possible which is why i was wondering if i can take out a loan some how for a second-hand car. i've only been working for a couple of months, i'm 18, and the car's owned by a family member and been in the family since the day the car was released.
what do i do?

When did VL's come with 304's?
I thought only the brockies came with V8's and they were 308 motors...

When did VL's come with 304's?
Between 1986 and 1988 ;).
The 304s in the VLs looked the same as 308s, even when you cracked the headgasket open to take a looksee. Only a few ways to tell the difference, the best being the stamping in the rear left of the block. Even though both engines were 5.0L (the 304 isn't a 4.9L like some sources claim), it is only the 304 that comes with 5.0L stampings. The 304's were even carbed until '89 when they gained EFI with the infamous VN Commodore.
