View Full Version : Rock Band 2 vs Guitar Hero World Tour
I'm going to ask for one or the other for Christmas and I wanted to get Totse's advice on which is best.
Whilst reviews tend to favour Rock Band 2, they also went nuts over the original Rock Band which I was pretty disappointed by. I'm reasonably good at Guitar hero (can 5* most songs on expert) and I found Rockband's guitar less enjoyable to play and a bit too easy.
If you have played both I would love to hear from you!

Rock Band 2 actually has harder guitar than World Tour this time around, so if that's what you want Rock Band 2 is your best bet.
Rock Band 2 also has a better interface, better game mechanics, and a more interesting online component.
Really though, it should come down to whichever soundtrack you like better. Also, if you're planning to buy DLC, Rock Band will have over 500 songs to choose from by the end of Dec., and most of the ones out now are absolutely amazing, so keep that in mind.
ghwt is substantially easier than 2 or 3 guitar wise...
im not that great at it as i play for fun but i fc'ed like 5 songs first run through on medium and thats something id probably have to try to do in 2 or 3...

I've got GHWT and I love it.
It came down to the drums for me and of course the soundtrack...Hotel California and 5 Hendrix songs (3 of which are a track pack).
Love it.

Ghwt for me.
Great soundtracks.
Thanks for the advice guys, I'm leaning towards Rock Band 2 at the moment.
The soundtrack is really much more my cup of tea, I was hugely dissapointed with the GHWT soundtrack and if the setlists were the opposite I'd go for GHWT hands down.
I'm still in two minds though, I heard you can use the GH instruments with Rockband but not vice versa (i'm tempted to get GHWT bundle and then buy Rock Band 2 Solus) and I really like the look of the Custom song creator in Guitar Hero.

GHWT instruments work 100% with RB2 on PS3.

All I know is that Rock Band has that sound "Clouds Over California" by Devildriver. I don't have any of those games, but I just like that song.

Honestly, I wouldn't let this sell you on anything. The MIDI songs created on this are literally ringtone quality, you're not really going to feel like a rockstar playing ringtone quality songs.
Also, I'd be wary of the GHWT instruments. Well, the guitar is supposed to be pretty damn good (The RB2 Strat is also awesome too), but there have been a lot of problems with the drums and the pedal isn't very good quality. Also, they're kind of a pain to use on a lot of Rock Band songs because of the raised cymbal. Doing any song in RB that has rolls that go across all four toms on the GHWT drums is much more difficult than it should be because you have to go from a Tom, to a Cymbal, to a Tom. This is incredibly awkward, and on some rolls nearly impossible.
When it comes right down to it, if you like the RB2 setlist, I'd just get that.

Hotel California
The Eagles didn't include Hotel California on their Greatest Hits CD for a reason.
So many better songs by them.
EDIT: Lying Eyes is my personal favorite.

Hotel California is one of the worst songs ever made.
