I will soon be homeless. Yet I need internet connection. So what I am considering is buying a laptop, then go and steal someone's wireless internet. This is doable, right? can someone teach me how to do it please? Keep in mind that I know pretty much nothing about computers. And also, any ideas on where I might find wireless internet connection? The only two places I can think of right now is coffee shops and university libraries.

I need step by step instruction on how to steal wireless internet.

If your going to be homeless how are you going to charge your laptop?
Most public hotspots such as coffee shops require you to pay by credit card making "stealing" internet there impossible.
These points aside I would lookup WEP encryption and then research WiFi cards that support promiscuous mode.
This will not be the quick workaround you are looking for.

Actually you can easily get by hotspots and coffee shops trying to charge you by using ICMP tunneling.

If your going to buy a laptop I can't see why you won't have a place to live. Anyways, you could buy a wifi finder and drive down the road (or walk I guess) until you find someone who has wireless internet and then yours will automatically go on. Most residential places don't have passwords.

It isn't stealing. They're giving it to you by using WEP.


make sure your card is compatible with aircrack-ng and packet injection drivers.
install GNU/Linux, set up packet injection, hang out in wireless spot running aireplay and airodump and aircrack (apartments are good spots typically).
if you didn't understand the above, rtfm.

Walk around looking for hotspots. Eventually (less than 5 minutes) you will find one without encryption. Tell your computer to connect to that hotspot.

You got serious issues if your worried about internet when your homeless.

call up your operater from a phonebook, and ask for buisnesses listed as free internet.

90 percent of libraries have wired interet.

have a cell phone, your laptop you have to sell today..

give all contacts new cell phone number, there are several free plug sockets around, cafe's(+free internet), bars, some trains, banks.

Broadcom works fine with injection with the bcm43xx or b43 drivers, IIRC. Worked fine for me when I had broadcom chips.

Instead of worrying about having internet, you should probably get a job, and a home....then use the internet at your job (preferably an office job). Seriously internet can't be THAT crucial.

How can you afford to buy a laptop if youre about to be homeless? Peoples got different priorities tho- I have no job and shit nd have trouble buying food but I managed to buy a mega fast laptop and Ill spend more than I really should to go to a place and use the internet- because its tthat important to me. More N hunger.

Wasn't there something involving changing the mac address of your wireless card to that of the hotspot that allowed one to gain access to their internet without paying? I just remembered hearing this a while ago. I've never tried it, so who knows if it still works or ever worked.

i have backtrack3 on a usb; booted it up and used aireplay/airmon/aircrack with a awll3055 usb card I had lying around....monitor mode enabled fine but there was no traffic coming and I was getting like only a few packets/ivs every 10 minutes....I've heard packet injection is the way to do it, but I'm not sure how exactly. any help?

It's likely that's a false positive. If it took you longer than a minute or so, you probably didn't have enough IV's to successfully crack the key.
