View Full Version : Girlfriend bought me a new gun :) VZ-58
Well my girlfriend received some cash on a lawsuit she won, ended up buying me a brand new Czech VZ-58, got it for $799.99, came with 4 mags (plus 1 so 5 total), put about 200 rounds down range. It's a nice rifle, not quite an AK47 though it looks similar, the gas system is different, bolt is 2 pieces, striker fired, gas piston is separate from the bolt carrier which is weird but looks like reduction in the recoil, receiver is milled but yet the thing weighs less than an AR15, i'm impressed.
Accuracy is very nice as well, 3 headshots at 200 yards.

Nice! There are a couple of new black synthetic handguards and grips available out there now if you're interested. I can't stand that old bakelite stuff.

Yea but it does give it that oldschool commie look ;)
Nice!
I've got my eye on the semi-auto version of this:

You lucky bastard!
how the hell did you get something like that? I mean not from your girlfriend, but legally?

What strikes you as so illegal about it? It's not full auto or anything...
That thing looks cheap, even for an AK variant.

It's a bad picture. IRL, the furniture looks much nicer and the whole thing has a very solid feel. If they could use AK mags they'd be damn near perfect.

I am sure it is pretty rare. But it just looks like a glorified sks/akm hybrid. Looks like it has been refinished with that grey. I would much rather build another ar15 for that price. But you girl does sound like a keeper.

Here in the US for now, we can have big scaryh assualt weapons like the ak and AR15, FOR NOW.

Is that a CZ build, or one of the other manufacturers?

There's a picture of one in Fab Defense's furniture. I think with the folding stock yours would be awesome in that configuration.

Wish my girlfriend would buy me a gun! She won't even touch one

It's all milled and the internals are utterly nothing even similar to the AK family. It uses a tappet and the bolt is tilting and striker fired. It does look somewhat similar to an AK, but in reality it's pretty unique.

yeah, i know that, but those variants often are made semi-automatic. I didn't figure a less known gun like the Vz's to be converted into semi-automatic

CZ is actually doing some of these. They're manufacturing new receivers and sticking restored [or possibly some NOS, I dunno] parts kits on 'em.

In Canada they're pretty common and well known, not sure why they aren't so common in the USA, import laws probably. Actually, on second thoughts, import laws definitely.
As for why CZ is making them, money, they do a fair bit of exporting.

Depends on the state where you live.
Here in the US...
In most states,
Walk in to gun store.
Pay.
Wait for back ground check.
Holding period (if applicable).
In other states,
Find private seller.
Meet up.
Pay.
Bullshit about guns for a few minutes.
Shake hands.
Part ways.
I prefer private seller...
Better prices! (no dealer overhead).
-and-
No paperwork! =)
