I just need to know the normal basic way that people prepare collard greens. I assume I either put them in a pot with a little water and steam them or cook them in a pan with a little bit of oil.

Please tell me what to do I do not know.

Collard greens are pretty leafy, yes?

Heat some oil in a large enough pan, add the greens and stir it up a bit. Cover and let it steam for a few minutes; you don't need to add any water; stir it once halfway. Add a good amount of salt. It takes alot of salt or else it will taste bland. Final stir and plate.

Anyways, that's what I do with all of my big leafy greens, but I've never cooked collard greens specifically. Pretty simple, but usually that's best. You can add some garlic to the oil if you want.

collard greens.

1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 1/2 tablespoons minced garlic
2 bunches collards greens, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 cup stock or water
1 teaspoon salt
1-2 strips of bacon, cut into bits
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

In a large skillet over medium heat cook your bacon, then add the oil as necesary. After 10-15 seconds, add the crushed red pepper, garlic and cook until fragrant, 30 to 45 seconds. Add the greens, in batches, stirring between additions until the greens wilt slightly. Cook, stirring, for 2 minutes. Add the stock, salt and cayenne and cover, continuing to cook until greens are just tender, 4 to 5 minutes longer.

please, please, please dont cook these greens till they are mush
