Games that I really remembered were awesome when I was like maybe 12 were like Age of Empires 2, Jame Bond Nightfire (Greatest party game fucking ever), GTA 3 and Pigmen.
Baldurs Gate II and Planescape: Torment were pretty wicked, although, they are quite a bit older then what you asked for. But take your time with them, and they'll rock your world, plus, on the bright side of them being old: you'll have no problem maxing 'em out.

Tiny Tank.
Why wasn't Tiny Tank ever popular? The game was hard as fuck though.

Descent, PC
Fixed.
I used to be a Descent nut. I can't seem to find any good way of playing Descent 3 online lately though. Kinda gay since I finally have hi-speed (1v1 matches worked on my old dial-up connection though)

You can get this for free now, sponsored by the U.S. Air Force. Annoying ads when you start and exit the game though, but otherwise they seem pretty uninvasive. Does anyone know how to get this game working at 1680 x 1050 by any chance?
Kirby: Crystal Shards for N64. Holy shit I love that game.
Monkey Island :@:@
I remember installing all the floppy discs, 'twas lawl.

Nope, I didn't like it very much. Advancing from stone age to robot age or something wasn't very cool.
I'd spend hours, hours and more hours playing Age of Empires in the internet when I first had the awesome 56k connection.

Actually this takes me back to an old, online, 4 team, tank game I used to play called Tanarus. I was so addicted to this game until Sony made it "Pay 2 Play" about 7 or 8 years ago. It was basically a capture the flag style tank battle with 5 tank options that have different abilities and different amounts of weapons bay storage you get to fill with your choice of arsenal - cannons, missiles, mines, lasers, and a fuckton of special ability weapons. Graphics were great for back in the day. I just always remember my 56k screwing up while connecting to the servers.
It's still around. I'm tempted to get a 6 month subscription to Sony Station just to see what it's become. So many wasted hours and wrist cramps...

Original Command and Conquer for MS DOS. Especially with the shit modded out of it to make everything cost $5 and all units to move really fast.
Massive lulz in multiplayer will ensue. hahaha.
Oh yeah, commandos with the obelisk of light laser as the weapon = epic win.

EE1 was a good game. Fun, campaign was a lot like the origional Age of Empires.
EE2 was a downgrade. Still fun and the campaign was alright but you could tell they were messin with the formula.
EE3 will not be spoken of for even uttering its name shall ruin a game.
Banjo Kazooee was the fucking SHIT back in the day. Rogue squad on 64 was awesome as well.
Basically all the Total War games before the gunpowder age were amazing.
Fallout 1&2.
Final Fantasy 7 and 8. I might get some heat for liking 8 but fuck it, I liked it.
SNES and GB versions of Zelda. They were pro on a level game developers still do not comprehend.
Commanche 3. It was fucking gold.
C&C: Red Alert2. Damn near perfect game.
And of course, the all time old school game: Starcraft (Brood War too).
(Edit: I wasn't going to include AOE because it was already listed but since I did it with SC.. fuck it. Age of Empires and its expansion were the best RTS games ever made, not including SC and Total Annihilation.
