The Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification has refused to classify F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, effectively banning the game in the world's smallest continent.

This marks the fifth game to have been refused classification in Australia this year - following Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, and Silent Hill: Homecoming which remain effectively banned, as well as Dark Sector and Fallout 3, both of which were later edited and resubmitted for a local release.

No reason has been given for the ban yet.

Madness. I don't even see why such radical censorship should be put in place in the first place, it should be down to parents.

Its because our ratings system doesn't go any higher than MA15+ (for games), and in most cases even if it does comply with the MA rating, content still gets ripped out.

Our government has never taken the gaming industry serious. They've been too strict since GTA III slipped pass them and had to be recalled after about a month of retail (which in turn made a longer wait before a censored version came out).

There's still ways around it (getting games from UK) but this turns out expensive and annoying since they have a censored version for sale just down the road.

Plus paying $110 for a new game (thats been well developed) is a joke.

But at least we've still got our kangaroos which we can ride to work/school in.

This here. You wouldn't know it till you came here, but this country has very few problems, and none of them are serious. Everyones gotta whinge about something though. Annoys me though, back in the day Aussies never whinged about shit, just sucked it up even when things were truly bad - but ever since our media has been centralised on mainly American culture it has made our nation take a turn for the worse. Tainting us with American-ness. It's getting so bad it's a national disaster.

There is some work to be done on setting the video gameindustry up properly over here though. As for getting games late - not really. Like any other country foreign to the games native nation, the length of time between release and import depends on how good of a game it is. For example, we don't get very many shit games because nob distributor bothers importing them, and all the good games we get at exactly the same time the rest of the world does, sometimes even sooner.
Of course, being Australian, we still consider many of the games we get as 'shit' because that's what end of the spectrum they're at here. In the USA they might even be considered good games, because you get so many REALLY terrible titles.

Sometimes we get games like the NFS series which are pretty mediocre but have always sold well all around the world, and occasionally (thisis pretty rare though) we won't get a cult title. We don't exactly miss out, because those that want these games just ship them in from Singapore or other english speaking asian nations, or though the internet.


We do pay out the arse for games though, which is fucking rediculous.
