Hey there,

I'm getting the Greek word for love (Agapi, not Eros) tattooed on my wrist. I don't speak the language so I want to take extra care not to make any mistakes with this tattoo. I want to be true to the language, respectful to the culture and I'd like it to be in a font that would actually be used by modern Greeks.

I looked around for a picture of the word in use and I actually found two people with it tattooed on them.

Does the font look appropriate? Are the two acent marks correct? Anything wrong with it?

I don't want to get a tattoo then find out a few months later that because I have it written a certain way it doesn't mean love but tuna fish or something like that. That would suck.

Looks good to me iv forgotten the majority of my Greek though after moving to Canada but it looks good to me. I am thinking about getting in loving memory in Greek on my back shoulder or down my ribs

I wouldn´t even think of a tatoo in a language that i don´t know. why should there be any connection for me then to put it onto my skin for the rest of my life ..

I understand your sentiments completely. I've laughed before at all the people who get Asian characters tattooed on their body. I read about some guy who tried to get the words Justice and Courage in Japanese tatooed on his arm (or some shit like that) but the tattoo artist pulled one over on him and tattooed the phrase "At the end of the day, this is still an ugly boy."

The connection I have with the Greek language is that I love the culture, cook the food often, and the person I love most is a proud half Greek. The word was a pet name between us when we were together. That may not be reason enough for you to forgive me for the trespass of tattooing in a language that I don't know, but its enough to alleviate my own guilt. *Grins*

I don't take the anthropological stand of cultural patrimony that says that cultural traits are the sole property of that culture. We're all part of humanity. Greek belongs to you, to me, and to the world... not just to the Greeks. Just being a part of western civilization is a strong link to Greek culture.

If they taught Greek at my college it'd be the language I'd be taking next semester rather than French.

That's improper spelling, as well as a grammar to say something along the lines of 'love men'.
