Tasers suck. If you're running from the cops and they see you going over a fence, they'll just whip out their taser and paralyze your body (You fall straight on your face)

It's winter time so I'm wondering if anyone knows of any nice thick jackets/vests out there that can stop the prongs of a taser?

I don't want to buy kevlar or anything heavy/expensive. I still need to be able to move and run fast as well because escape is the best defense.

Admittedly they are heavy (you could probably go for aluminium) and It will probably cost you $60+ to get one, but it would also provide some protection against knives. Don't forget to ground yourself. This can best be accomplished by getting an unvarnished metal stake, sticking it into the ground, and then connecting it to said vest with insulated wire. A possible alternative is to connect your vest to a cold water pipe rather than a stake in the ground.

Staking yourself to the ground would be pretty much the worst way to run from a cop with a taser.

Thick clothing won't really work.

You need to establish an electrical path with conductive materials so the majority of the electricity will flow through the path of less resistance. I would suggest using some sort of conductive foil sandwiched between two insulators that would have a chance of stopping the prongs itself. A layer of silicon, a layer of steel mesh, a layer of copper foil, and at the bottom a layer of Kevlar would work fairly well. I would also suggest you use a material able to absorb moisture near your skin, because such a vest would be very warm, and the salt water from your sweat would vastly reduce your electrical resistance, making your body a more likely conduit.

If someone starts making suits that do that you can bet they will make a lot of money on the street.

Yes a fish hook is a hook. The thing it the TIP is the barb. The fish hook shape is irrelavent, it is the BARB AT THE TIP. the taser prongs have a barb on them just like a fish hook has a barb on it. THAT IS WHY THEY ARE BOTH CALLED A BARB. Notice how the taser prongs have a tip on them that is almost exactly the same as the barb on the fish hook.

Edit: i was measuring the wrong barb on a different hook, there is actually a smaller one, the barb is 2.73mm long and .76mm wide at the barb, .09mm at the tip and the whole hook is 10mm

I didn't really read the forum much but I suggest Insulated boots they are about 350 dollars in australia and they stop electricians from being electricuted by stopping the electricty from earthing out you can get insul;ated gloves as well they can be a little heavy but your best bet

It doesn't work because the two prongs are positive and negative terminals of the same circuit. So in any case the electricity went through you, but it never goes to the ground.

So if you stopped it with your clothes, it would complete the circuit through your clothes and not you. But wouldnt it have to leave a charge on something, or does the fact that the circuit is completed eliminate the possibility of something becoming charged?

just wear a PFD, one that cover your whole torso, not those big orange ones with the foam blocks, then put an aviators jacket or flight deck jacket (surplus store) over that. neither conduct electricity, and the outer coat will slow down the prongs while the PFD catches them, and soaks up all of the electricity, if your wearing an old flight deck jacket it may not even get through!:)

It would take a very large current to overcome the resistant of most clothing. For the amounts involved in most tasers, I would say non-conductive materials are enough to stop you closing the circuit.

After replaying GTA:SA,...I've got another idea..

I was thinking why is that every time you ram another vehicle with a rhino (tank) the other vehicle would blow up....then it occurred to me...REACTIVE ARMOR ,...that's why..

So you can do the same for your anti-tazer armor. Get a steel plate, and make some 2.5inch diameter dimples on them, systematically lined up across the breast plate. Then fill those dimple with plastic explosives or semtexs.

Now everytime your being tazered, the electrical current from the tazer will set off the plastic explosive on you armor, and the dimple-shaped steel plate will direct the explosive force outward, much like a shaped charge.....causing them to blow up outward and away from you,....thus destroying the prongs in the process....

Sophisticated yes....but guaranteed to work too....
