papoose is an awesome up and coming rapper even though he has been around for years

saul williams is a great example of intellectual rap (like the few i mentioned in my original reply)

shwayze is a pretty cool hipster group with a black dude rapping over beats of acoustic guitar

8ball and mjg talented and good writers been dirty south rappers before it was even cool (like ugk)

tyga (cousin of gym class heroes) kind of a fad but who knows you might be into that kinda shit. download pillowtalkin or the song with seven in the name i forget.

TRU (master p, silk and c) awesome early rap group gettin down

chamillionare, bone thugs, tupac (especially mackeveli), biggie's first cd obviously, cool kids, crime mob's first cd, nelly's first cd, any devin the dude, outkast or any of their solo shit, eminem's first 2 cds but that is obvious, jay z another obvious choice, plies is hit or miss you love him or hate him, ti you are crazy if you dont like em, jeezy's first cd is awesome as fuck, early three 6 mafia when it was an actual mafia (perfect example of crunk music)..

anyone from wutang- rza, gza, ol dirty bastard, ghostface, inspecta deck, u god, method man, red man, raekwon, cappadona,

might not be your taste but anyone from lavahouse or trill (ugk, bun b, boosie, webbie, big poppa, foxx, big head, mouse)

let me know what you hated and what you likked..

A Tribe Called Quest. I'd reccomend checking out their Anthology album first to see if you like them. I'd also reccomend maybe checking out The Low End Theory.

I like old school rap.

Rap and hip hop now days sucks balls. I do admit every now and then someone makes a good song or 2 but most of it is pure incoherent garbage.

Gravediggaz. Only 6 Feet Deep(Niggamortis(UK title)) though, the others have too little RZA for my liking. Get that shit now!

Well the others albums are still good, but Niggamortis is 10/10 classic hip-hop.

pre-2001. The farther you throw back, the better it gets. Stay up on undergroundhiphop.com for a good selection of music. They are always throwing up "recommended album" lists, sampling artists from across the world as well as bunch of sick videos. Found a lot of my favorite artists through there.

As an aside, that song you posted is weak. Flow/rhymes are amature except for Agers on that last verse. Get a hold of Mobbs first album, infamous and '93 til infinity by souls of mischief (upbeat rhyme style, but vicious lyrics). All the Big L is a good choice, but make sure to catch Children of the Corn and some D.I.T.C.

Gangstarr is good, fat joe in his early days up on terror squad, big pun on endangered species fuck i could go on for days

if you're willing to dig deep
binary star
one be lo
gruf the druid
decompoz
KMD
Monster Island Czars (M.I.C.)

and some other shit

apathy
dangermouse
mf doom and all his collabs
the whole heiro crew

should be enough to get your started

Does GZA have any good solo stuff other than the Grandmasters album with DJ Muggs? I liked that album a bit but I haven't gotten around to looking into his other stuff. Although I could be wrong and it was RZA who did Grandmasters.
