I've been driving for a little over 2 years, no tickets or accidents up until now, and I'd say I'm a pretty decent driver. Today I was driving behind a truck going about 40 (the speed limit was 45) and some old lady cuts in front of the truck going extremely slow. The truck slams on its brakes and narrowly avoids the old lady, but I'm not as lucky and barely have time to react, and slam into the truck from behind. Then the old bitch just drives off without a scratch on her car. I drive a 06' ford focus, so I barely left a scratch on this guy's bumper while my whole front is destroyed, and my car doesn't even start now. I had to get it towed, the cop said the lady probably won't be found because she drove off and no one got her license. I didn't get a ticket, and the people I hit were really nice and I don't think they're even going to report it to their insurance, but I'm wondering how much this shit is gonna cost and if the insurance company is gonna raise my cost of insurance every month. I'm 18 so right now this isn't looking too good. Any help is appreciated.

What state are you in? In most states if you hit someone from behind it is your fault unless there was a superseding intervening cause. None of that matters however if the other person isn't reporting the accident.

You premium is definitely going to raise. Your insurance company may drop you but I doubt it with a clean record. We don't know the specifics of your insurance plan so totse can't help you out much further.

Call your insurance company?

All I can say is- were you keeping at least 100 feet distance? If not, you're screwed.

100 feet?

drive to conditions, not that kind of shit.

3 seconds regular conditions, 5 seconds at night or in the wet.

Depends what your insurance is like. When I stacked my Fiesta I only had 3rd party cover. As long as no one is claiming on you you don't even need to tell the insurance company. Just find your car logbook and send in the 'scrapped vehicle' notice and then take the car down to the scrappy or if you're handy with cars take it apart and sell it piece by piece.

What does your insurance entitle you to anyway? It sounds like a write off to me.

Call your ins co. Take your ride to a body shop/mechanic, probably a ford dealer. They'll give you an estimate of damage and inform your ins co as well. If damage is $4000.00 and your collision deductable is $500 your ins co gives dealer $3500 and you pay the $500 and drive off in your repaired car. If damage is more than the blue book worth of car, ins co gives you a check for the blue book worth which could be less than you actually owe on the car, in which case you are still leagally on the hook for a car you can't use. happens more than you would think. When dealing with your ins co also ask for resale damages. That's a % that you would take a hit on if you sold your car. Stoney comes by and says: "that's wack man, I don't want a piece of shit car that's been in an accident, FU." Basically the net resale value of your car is diminished by damage sustained in the accident. And Yes your ins rates will go up.

Alright, it's pretty much all good, the damage was like 6,500$, but I only have to pay 500$ for it, guess I have good insurance (USAA). I just hope it doesn't go up too much. Thanks for any help.

I have USAA and I think you will be fine...just keep your nose clean for the time being.
